Mattersey Post Office & General Store
Update from Nicola & Norman. October 2026
Nicola & I feel it is now timely to update you all on what is happening here at Mattersey.
As previously planned, I will now be retiring from the business after 27 yearsโ service.
It will be a very strange experience to no longer have to set my alarm clock for โSilly O clockโ although I am sure my body clock will take some adjusting!
Both of us are definitely looking forward to a slower pace of life.
I first came to Mattersey in 1999. Both the world and my personal life were very different then. We have embraced all the changes, including the closure of both the village pubs. One thing that has remained consistent though is the support and friendship from all of you.
Both Nicola and I wanted to thank you for this support and friendship, loyalty and in deed custom these past years and hope that our paths will cross in the future once we depart this beautiful village and community.
A handover date of the 9th November is in place, naturally there will be some disruption particularly to Shop Services, Post Office services as normal.
The official transfer will be made in two stages. The Post Office services will continue with Nicola & Myself until late January as normal, naturally there will be some disruption particularly to Shop Services but we know you will understand this, whilst the shop and newspaper deliveries will be managed by the new owners.
Please ensure that all newspaper bills are paid in full prior to the handover date (9th November).
Newspaper deliveries will continue as normal together with management of payment vouchers.
The new owners, Peter & Patricia are very excited about their new adventure here in Mattersey, Nicola, Helena and myself are pleased to say will still be here to support them as they familiarise themselves during this time. We know you will support them and indeed make them feel welcome.
Meanwhile we hope to see you in the store and once again thank you
Norman & Nicola
