Your child may not always know when they need a wee or poo, so don't worry if they aren't telling you every time they need the toilet ๐Ÿšฝ Toilet training can look different for every family - itโ€™s all about progress, not perfection - and some children with additional needs may need more support ๐Ÿ’—

As their confidence grows, encourage them to use the toilet regularly and remind them it's always OK to ask for help if they need it.

Visit Best Start in Life or speak with your health visitor or for more trusted advice and practical tips on toilet training.

This week's sign of the week is Please.

01/09/2026

Over the coming weeks, we will be revisiting our Makaton signs to help build confidence and encourage their continued use at home and during sessions.

๐ŸคŸ What is Makaton?
Makaton uses simple signs alongside talking to help children communicate โ€” especially when they donโ€™t have the words yet ๐Ÿ’ฌโœจ

We use Makaton in our Family Hubs to help children feel understood ๐Ÿค, included ๐ŸŒˆ and more confident ๐Ÿ’ช. It supports speech, is easy to learn, and just a few signs can make a big difference at home ๐Ÿก

๐ŸŒŸ Weโ€™ll be sharing a Sign of the Week so you can join in at home too! Keep an eye on our page every Monday morning ๐Ÿ‘€๐Ÿ’™

If your child is preparing to start school, thereโ€™s still time to help them build confidence using the toilet on their own ๐Ÿšฝ๐Ÿ“š

Small, consistent steps can make a real difference. A simple conversation about what's changing can help children feel more prepared and start understanding what toilet training is all about.

Remember, every child develops differently and some children with additional needs may need more support. Focus on progress, not perfection, and take things one step at a time ๐Ÿ‘ฃ
