Join us as we mark the start of Armed Forces Week 2026 with the annual Raising the Flag ceremony in Doncaster.

This special event recognises and celebrates the dedication, service and sacrifice of our Armed Forces community, including serving personnel, veterans, reservists, cadets and military families.

It is with deep regret that we can confirm that a training accident occurred in northern Iraq on Sunday 31 May 2026 in which a service person from the British Army died.

The Rifles in the Northeast and Yorkshire 26

This June, The Rifles and communities across Yorkshire and the Northeast will bring our regimental five pillars together to celebrate our shared heritage, service, and community spirit all topped off by a Sounding Retreat performed by The Band and Bugles of The Rifles.

We would like to invite YOU to come along and show your support for the regiment across a series of FREE family-friendly events taking place throughout the region.

The Yorkshire based events also act as a celebration of the 80th anniversary of the Kings Own Yorkshire Light Infantry (KOYLIs) being awarded the Freedom of both Wakefield and Doncaster.

Expect performances from the Band of Bugles, cadets, military displays, engagement stands, community activities and much more.

Thank you to everyone who made a nomination for the Veteran's Appreciation Tea with the Mayor during Armed Forces Week.

We are delighted to advise that all places have now been taken, but sadly, that means that due to the limited numbers we can have at the venue, we can no longer accept any further nominations.

If you missed out, please keep your eyes peeled next year, as we wish to continue with tradition of recognising and thanking as many Doncaster veterans as possible.

Today we remember the official end of the Iraq War and reflect on the service and sacrifice of all those who deployed in support of operations in Iraq.

British Armed Forces personnel served with courage, professionalism and commitment under extremely difficult circumstances. We honour those who gave their lives, those who were injured, and the families who supported them throughout.

Their dedication and sacrifice will never be forgotten.
