During a recent operation we held with SYP Operational Support we found numerous driving to be risking their own and innocent people's lives through poorly maintained vehicles and bad choices.
Anyone of us can die in a collision, and while you can't be responsible for everyone's actions, you can your own. Do your part.
NEWS: Doncaster road safety operation finds dangerous drivers
Anyone of us can die in a collision. Our officers could be delivering the news to you about your loved one. Wouldn’t you want to do all you can to make the roads safer? Yet everyday our officers find those risking their own and innocent people’s lives.
During a recent road safety operation in Doncaster, neighbourhood officers supported by roads policing colleagues found drivers putting their own and other’s lives at risk through poor choices, poor vehicle maintenance and a complete disregard for the law.
During the operation, held over the weekend on 23 May, officers from the Central Neighbourhood Policing Team (NPT) held stop sites on Thorne Road and Bennetthorpe.
The majority of drivers were happy to stop and speak to officers and fully supported the work we are doing around road safety. Five drivers received Traffic Offence Reports (TORs) for speeding, driving without due care and driving without a seatbelt or MOT.
Two drivers were also given Section 59 warnings for driving in an anti-social manner. If these drivers are witnessed again committing an offence within the next 12 months, their vehicle will be immediately seized.
As the operation descended into the evening, the NPT were joined by roads policing colleagues and focussed their efforts on mobile patrols around the Lakeside area.
One driver was found to be over the drink drive limit. He blew 85 at the roadside, with the legal limit being 35. He was taken to custody where he again blew over the limit and was later charged to appear before court.
Two drivers had their vehicles seized for having no insurance. A further two vehicles were seized for driving in an anti-social manner and having already had previous warnings, one driver was processed for speeding excessively. Another two vehicles were prohibited from driving due to being in a dangerous condition and four drivers were issued TORs for speeding and tyres being in a dangerous condition.
