We need to talk about Camelots…

It's a Doncaster venue with a lot of history. Different usage and name changes, but in Doncaster it will always be Camelot's.

In amongst its sometimes turbulent history, we can't help thinking that its glory days were when it was being used regularly as a live music venue.

At risk of this becoming the Owen Killgallon fan page, we don't think anybody did a better job of promoting nights in there than Owen did. He attracted the great and the good of the music industry, and you could guarantee a packed house every time.

Here's a few photographs which Owen took of some classic nights he ran in there, featuring Sean Ryder, the enigmatic frontman of the Happy Mondays, Peter Hook, the bass player from New Order, and Clint Boon of Inspiral Carpets

Still going strong today, although in a different location, these are a few photographs from the original Vintage Rockbar downstairs.

What a place this was! Very cool little bar and live music venue just off Baxter Gate at the time

These are a few photographs from Doncaster Music Week. I could be wrong, but I think that's Stereo Syndicate playing live. The seated crowd is for a music industry panel which was delivered by Alan Raw from BBC Music Introducing. The young woman seated is Kelly from the Musicians' Union delivering a musicians' advice session.

This is what made the place so great, even way back in the day these photos were taken. They were always open to new ideas and always up for supporting the local music scene.

It's difficult to overstate what an important contribution The Perfect Beat, made to Doncaster's electronic and dance music club scene.

The pop-up club night ran at the Dome, then Bambuda across several years, showcasing the best local DJ talent and also bringing Legends such as Graeme Park, Marshall Jefferson, Jackmaster Funk, DJ Paulette, and more to .

This is just one of the amazing things that grew out of Rhythm Nation Records. It's probably also one of the biggest contributors to Owen's hair turning grey a bit earlier than he expected 😆 Doncaster appreciates the sacrifice you made 🙏🏼😉

There's probably going to be a few more posts with photographs from the Perfect Beat, as Owen has sent us a pile to wade through. Amazing memories and so good to see faces of everyone back in the day, including a few of our departed friends ❤️

The Priory, 2009. What a venue it was at this time. The club NME tour nights were a real coup for Doncaster live music.

Little Man Tate in a couple of the shots and also Miles Kane with The Rascals. Can anybody spot themselves in the crowd?

These were a few of Higher Rhythm’s promotions piggybacking the NME tour.

A few legendary hip-hop DJs played here as well. DJ Jazzy Jeff and DJ Premier to name but two
