Dorchester Fire Station

This afternoon two crews from Dorchester were called to a fire next to a A354 near Littlemoor to assist a crew from Weymouth.

The fire affected a large area of vegetation and further crews from Bridport Fire Station, L4P from Blandford Fire Station and a water carrier from Poole Fire Station attened.

Multiple hosereel jets were used to extinguish the fire and dampen down the area.

We would like to thank the public due to crews needing to park on the relief road, closing one lane so we could get the fire under control.

At 03:39 this morning a crew from Dorchester was mobilised as part of make up request for more resources at a barn fire in East Lulworth.

Crews from across the service battled to contain and extinguish a fire which involved approximately 2000 straw bales and a derelict building.

This incident is still ongoing so please avoid the area.

The government has issued a temporary ban on the sale of disposable barbecues as they pose a "significant risk to the public" during the current drought and heatwave conditions.

This is really positive news, however, many of the fires we have been attending recently have been started by bonfires so please make sure you follow our previous advice and do not have any sort of fires in the open during these drought conditions.

At 10:58 today crews from Dorchester and Weymouth Fire Station responded to reports of a roof fire in Queens Avenue Dorchester.

On route smoke could be seen from some distance away and we were informed by service control that they are receiving multiple calls for this incident and have assigned an ALP, which came from Westbourne Fire Station.

Once in attendance the roof was found to be well alight and a assistance message was sent requesting more appliances, which came from Wareham Fire Station, Portland Fire Station, Poole Fire Station and Yeovil Fire Station and a command unit from Hamworthy Fire Station.

The crews worked hard to bring this fire under control, using multiply main lines, hosereel jets and the ALP.

Crews have now left the scene and will attend later today to reinspect the property for any hot spots.

We're currently dealing with a fire near Queens Avenue which is causing a fair amount of smoke in the area.

Please avoid the area and if you're a local resident, you may want to consider keeping any windows and doors closed.

A barn full of hay is currently on fire at Throop Hollow, so anyone in that area may see or smell smoke. Crews are on scene from Wareham, Poole and Dorchester.

At 02:30 this morning both crews from Dorchester respond to a make pumps 4 assistance message to a roof fire in Weymouth.

The two crews assisted crews from Weymouth Fire Station and a ALP from Westbourne Fire Station to extinguish a well developed fire in the roof space of the property.

Crews donned breathing apparatus and used hosereel jets, mainlines and water from the ALP to bring the fire under control.

Over the last couple of weeks we have seen a big increase in fires around Dorchester and throughout the service area.

Due to the hot and dry conditions a small fire or spark can cause a much bigger fire.

If you spot smoke or a fire, don't assume someone else has reported it. Get to a safe place, note the location (What3Words can help) and call 999 immediately. The faster we can get to these incidents, the faster we can get them under control.
