Today at 19:14 both Dorchester crews, a pump and water carrier from Bridport Fire Station responded to reports of a barn on fire in the Bradford Peverell area.

On arrival the the effected bales had been removed from the barn.

The crews worked with the farmer to break apart the bales and extinguish the fire and dampen down the hay using two hose reel jets.

At 00:43 this morning crews from Dorchester and Maiden Newton Fire Station responded to reports of a bus on fire on the C12 Old Sherborne Road.

On arrival the bus was found to be well alight and the officer in charge requested a water carrier, which came from Yeovil Fire Station due to no water sources nearby.

The fire was extinguished using two hose reel jets and four of the crew members wearing breathing apparatus.

Once the fire was extinguished and no hot spots were found the incident was handed over to the police and local authorities to start the clean up.

Crews from Dorchester, Maiden Newton and Yeovil are currently dealing with a bus fire near Charminster. The road has been closed.

APPEAL | We are appealing for witnesses or anyone with information to come forward following a burglary at a fire station.

We received a report at 11.34am on Saturday 13 June 2026 of a break-in at Maiden Newton fire station.

It was reported that damage had been caused to windows and equipment had been stolen from within the station.

The incident was reported to have occurred overnight between Friday 12 June and Saturday 13 June 2026.

Police Constable Richard Robson, of Dorset Police, said: “We have launched a full investigation into this incident and are carrying out detailed enquiries to identify those involved.

“I would urge anyone who witnessed any suspicious activity in the area of the fire station overnight between Friday 12 June and Saturday 13 June 2026, or who may have captured relevant CCTV footage, to please contact us.”

Anyone with information is asked to contact Dorset Police online or by calling 101, quoting occurrence number 55260087507. Alternatively, independent charity Crimestoppers can be contacted anonymously online using its website or by calling Freephone 0800 555 111.

Today is a sad day for Dorchester, our temporary Watch Manager Michelle Rodway is retiring.

She served Dorchester since the year 2000, attending many incidents not just locally but also in Bournemouth, Poole and even across the borders.

She will be massively missed, her dedication and loyalty are second to none.

At 5:26am a crew from Dorchester were mobilised to a car fire on the Puddletown bypass.

When we got in attendance, the car was well alight, and in the bushes on the side of the bypass. We got to work with breathing apparatus and hose reel jets to suppress the fire and make the area safe.

Once the job was finished, we handed it over to the police, left and refuelled.
