Next month a trio will be tackling the Weymouth Half Ironman in aid of Dorset County Hospital Charity's Emergency and Critical Care Appeal.

Pain Specialist Nurse Dan will be swimming, Physiotherapist Kate will be running and Advanced Nurse Practitioner Becky will be cycling the challenge.

The trio said: "Within our job roles we see first-hand the incredible work that goes into caring for patients during some of the most difficult moments of their lives. The teams in these departments work tirelessly to respond to emergencies, support recovery, and provide compassionate care when it is needed most. Through this fundraiser, we hope to help support vital equipment, resources and services so they can continue delivering the highest level of care to everyone who relies on them. Every contribution, big or small, will help make a real difference."

If you are visiting our hospital, you'll see this beautiful 3D artwork by Dawn Weller on display in our courtyard window cases.

Dawn is based in Somerset and her work seeks to inspire an immersion in the colours of the natural world.

Part of our Arts in Hospital exhibitions, these five monochromatic pieces are compiled from gathered elements from nature - with animal, vegetable and mineral representation centred around a single exact colour.

If you are aged 55 to 74, and are registered with a Dorset GP and are a current or former smoker, you will be invited to have a lung cancer screening assessment.

Julie White from Weymouth was just 60 years old when she opted to have a lung cancer screening assessment - a decision that saved her life.

Her initial assessment deemed her high risk of developing lung cancer and follow-up CTs detected three separate cancers in one lobe. Following early surgery to remove the lobe, Julie didn't require any radiotherapy or chemotherapy and is now living cancer free.

Julie said: "If I hadn't had the screening, I don't know whether my lung cancer would have been picked up until it was too late."

Listen to her powerful story below.
