Mid-June is our favourite period in the wildlife year.

Why? Because after weeks spent monitoring nests, it’s time to leg ring red kite chicks.

The data, gathered for the Scottish Raptor Monitoring Scheme, tells us much about these birds’ lives - how long they live, where they travel to, how their populations change over time.

And the good news is that this has been a bumper year for kite productivity, with 8 chicks ringed across Argaty’s 5 nests - a sure sign of a good vole year.

[Note: All raptor monitoring work carried out under NatureScot licence.]
