Whether you love birdwatching, walks, rock pooling or just want to take in a sunset, the hoe has something for everyone!

The sheep have returned to Samphire Hoe for winter grazing. There is a mix of Soay, Kerry Hill, and Herdwick breeds.

Please keep dogs on leads and give the sheep space when visitng the site.

Spot the juvenile adder! 🐍🔍

Ranger Lewis discovered this juvenile adder expertly hiding amongst the foliage. It was only around 16cm!

Unlike grass snakes, adders do not lay eggs, giving birth to live young that are independent from day one.

Many are born during August and September, with juveniles surviving entirely on leftover yolk sac and fat reserves during their first weeks.

Autumn is here at Samphire Hoe; house martins are gathering, the starling flock is building, wheatears and common sandpipers are passing through on migration. On Saturday the 22nd of August 10.00 - 12.00 there will be a drop-in birdwatching point at the Dover end of the sea wall. All welcome. We will have telescopes and binoculars.

They have increased their range to only a few coastal locations in Kent - one of these being Samphire Hoe.
