Marine invasive species!
Sea plants and animals that have come from afar and are causing a problem โ€“ we donโ€™t want them in our waters.
Have a look at the poster so you know what to look out for.
Have you found an American lobster?
If you find one, DO NOT PUT IT BACK IN THE WATER, note the location it was found, take photos of it, bring it back to shore and report it.
Report findings of any suspected invasive species here:

Never let plastics, oil or chemicals overboard!
These are pollutants and small amounts add up to have big consequences.
Start a conversation and make sure everyone on your vessel knows that it is never OK to let these hazardous substances overboard.
Rather, take part in Fishing For Litter (removing litter from the sea), beach cleans, and make sure your vessel is properly serviced and not leaking any substances unintentionally.
Please so what you can to reduce marine pollution!

Recycling facilities will soon be available for vessels at all NIFHA harbours!

Please segregate your waste on board and then put CLEAN DRY RECYCLABLES in the recycling bin at the quayside. This must be LOOSE OR IN CLEAR BAGS - not black bin bags. Just like at home.

Recycling reduces waste going to landfill, and products made from recycled materials use less energy and produce less greenhouse gases than products made from new raw materials.

Thanks all who cleaned the beach at Kilkeel, end of Moor Rd on Saturday as part of International Coastal Clean Up Day!
The waste/resources collected are being used for circular economy research by Future Island-Island, including University Of Ulster and Queen's University Belfast.
All litter was brought to their lab for processing, where they will turn polyethylene twine into filament for 3D printing and polypropylene twine into feedstock for a circular polymer supply chain for product design.
Wishing these researchers the best on this challenging endeavour, which could be a great benefit for the fishing industry's push towards a circular economy.
