It has been a fun couple weeks having Alan Cargo back in with us for his metal shaping and welding workshop. The shed are learning to make cow boy sculptures and wine racks out of old horse shoes!

🦀Day Trip to Portaferry Aquarium 🐠

Yesterday the men enjoyed a trip across the Strangford ferry to visit the underwater Aquarius in portaferry, and for a bite of lunch. As you can see one of our shedders made a new friend, while another tested out the hurricane simulator. However, with the wind and rain this past week, he could've experienced that outside for free. 😆

Another huge thank you to The National Lottery Community Fund for making moments like these possible.

Mens Shed Digital Course

Yesterday we had a great team from Advice NI out delivering the first of a five week 'improving our digital skills' workshop. Week one was all about how to become aware and spot scams when online. Really insightful.

A huge thank you to Anne and Laura from Advice NI, along with their fantastic volunteers; Liam and Brendan.

This past week we had the pleasure of Lisa McKee (Store Manager) and Maggie Wilcox (Community Rep) from Eurospar Downpatrick visit the shed ahead of their new store opening in the area.

Lisa, Maggie and the team kindly gifted the men with a nice hamper, buns and a huge bag of tea bags. Our kettle will never be off, so you are welcome back any time! 😆

🌼 Cancer Fund For Children 🌼
This past week we had David Gibson on behalf of the Cancer Fund for Children team in Newcastle call in to the shed. We recently learned the community up there have a pet Hen Called Beatrice whom the kids just love! So, Harry one of our shedders had the pleasure of making this fantastic Hen Hut for Beatrice which we get to donate. We hope she will be happy in her new condo. Check it out!

A huge thank you to The National Lottery Community Fund who continually make these kind of projects and stories possible for our shed.

Recently the men completed an introductory course to wood carving with the talented Steve Ryan from Green Woodwork Ireland. It might have been a first time for many of the men, but look at how well some of the finished products turned out! Natural talent. We are looking forward to having Steve back in again soon.

Another huge thank you to The National Lottery Community Fund for making this project possible.
