🦆FRIDAYTHORPE POND RESTORATION 🌿

Great news! Following our successful application to the Do It For East Yorkshire Community Grant Fund, the highly anticipated restoration works on the village pond are scheduled to start this Monday🛠️

As you know, the hot summer left the pond almost completely dried up. The final piece of the puzzle was waiting on the official laboratory baseline testing of the water. Because of the pond’s condition, it was vital to get professional lab results back so the contractors knew exactly what they were handling before breaking ground, to avoid putting anything toxic in to our environment.

The results are now in, and to put it politely... the ducks officially won the last round! 😂 🦆
Because the water level is so low, the wildfowl waste has become highly concentrated, pushing bacterial levels (E. coliand Enterococci) off the charts.
🚨 IMPORTANT SAFETY NOTICE FOR DOG OWNERS & PARENTS:
While the work is underway next week, please ensure children and pets are kept well away from the pond basin and mud, The water and silt are highly contaminated and could cause nasty stomach upsets or infections if touched or ingested.

What to expect on the Green next week:

* Heavy Machinery: Contractors will be on site with heavy machinery to pump out the remaining slurry and dig out years of built-up duck muck.
* Temporary Piles: The excavated material will be piled safely at the gravel edge of the pond for 24–48 hours. This is a legal requirement to allow native pond wildlife and beetles time to safely crawl out and migrate.

Once the muck is cleared and the basin is deepened, the pond will finally be able to hold a much higher, healthier volume of fresh rainwater, creating a beautiful, clean habitat we can all enjoy again.

‼️Fridaythorpe Green & Clean Meeting – Pond Restoration 🌿

Our next Green & Clean meeting will be held at The Manor Inn at 6.30pm on Wednesday 23rd September, and we’ll be spending the evening talking through the plans for restoring the village pond and what needs to happen next.

We’ve secured funding for the project, which gives us a brilliant opportunity to restore the pond properly and create something that works well for wildlife, looks right for the village and can be enjoyed for years to come.

We’d really love to see a good mix of people there. We need ideas and local knowledge, but we also need practical people who are happy to get involved with the hands-on side of things; whether that’s digging, building, landscaping, planting, sourcing materials, machinery, or simply knowing how to get things done.

You don’t need to be a regular Green & Clean member, and you definitely don’t need to be an expert. If you care about the pond and think you might have something useful to contribute, please come along, have a drink and join the conversation.

Fantastic news for Fridaythorpe Pond! 🌿

We’re thrilled to announce that Fridaythorpe Parish Council has received a £5,000 grant from the Do It For East Yorkshire Community Grant Fund to restore our village pond. 💚

Funds raised at this year’s Fridaythorpe Village Fête will also contribute to the ongoing project to sustain the pond. A huge thank you to everyone who attended, volunteered, donated raffle prizes, set up stalls or otherwise made the day a success. Your support is now helping us invest directly back into the village. 🦆🌱

The pond holds significant historical and cultural importance for Fridaythorpe. Throughout this project, we’re committed to preserving its traditional and historic character while ensuring its sustainability and long-term health.

The restoration will be undertaken in stages, with Stage 1 commencing as soon as our contractor is available.

We’d love this to be a community effort. Would you be interested in a local meeting to discuss the restoration and share your ideas? If so, please comment YES.

Additionally, if you live locally and are keen to volunteer for the restoration, planting, habitat work or general pond maintenance as the project progresses, please contact the Parish Council. 🌱

We’re incredibly grateful to the Do It For East Yorkshire Community Grant Fund, everyone who supported the fête and the wider community for helping us protect and restore this cherished part of Fridaythorpe.

Thank you to everyone who came, helped and contributed to our 2026 Fridaythorpe Village Fete. We had a blast despite the wind! We are very grateful to live in such a wonderful community 🏡🌱🎉
