‼️Fridaythorpe Green & Clean Meeting – Pond Restoration 🌿

Our next Green & Clean meeting will be held at The Manor Inn at 6.30pm on Wednesday 23rd September, and we’ll be spending the evening talking through the plans for restoring the village pond and what needs to happen next.

We’ve secured funding for the project, which gives us a brilliant opportunity to restore the pond properly and create something that works well for wildlife, looks right for the village and can be enjoyed for years to come.

We’d really love to see a good mix of people there. We need ideas and local knowledge, but we also need practical people who are happy to get involved with the hands-on side of things; whether that’s digging, building, landscaping, planting, sourcing materials, machinery, or simply knowing how to get things done.

You don’t need to be a regular Green & Clean member, and you definitely don’t need to be an expert. If you care about the pond and think you might have something useful to contribute, please come along, have a drink and join the conversation.

The more people who get involved, the better the project will be. 💧🌱

Fantastic news for Fridaythorpe Pond! 🌿

We’re thrilled to announce that Fridaythorpe Parish Council has received a £5,000 grant from the Do It For East Yorkshire Community Grant Fund to restore our village pond. 💚

Funds raised at this year’s Fridaythorpe Village Fête will also contribute to the ongoing project to sustain the pond. A huge thank you to everyone who attended, volunteered, donated raffle prizes, set up stalls or otherwise made the day a success. Your support is now helping us invest directly back into the village. 🦆🌱

The pond holds significant historical and cultural importance for Fridaythorpe. Throughout this project, we’re committed to preserving its traditional and historic character while ensuring its sustainability and long-term health.

The restoration will be undertaken in stages, with Stage 1 commencing as soon as our contractor is available.

We’d love this to be a community effort. Would you be interested in a local meeting to discuss the restoration and share your ideas? If so, please comment YES.

Additionally, if you live locally and are keen to volunteer for the restoration, planting, habitat work or general pond maintenance as the project progresses, please contact the Parish Council. 🌱

We’re incredibly grateful to the Do It For East Yorkshire Community Grant Fund, everyone who supported the fête and the wider community for helping us protect and restore this cherished part of Fridaythorpe.

We’ll keep everyone informed as the work progresses and hopefully Stage 1 will begin soon! 💚

📚✒️There’s still time to enter! ✒️📚

For all our young budding authors, historians, and creatives, the deadline for entries for our children’s writing competition is the 15th of July! Any time before midnight 👡🎃 please include the authors name, age, and parents contact details ☎️
Our Fridaythorpe Village Fete Creative Writing Competition is well underway, but we’d love to see even more entries from young writers across the Yorkshire Wolds!

This year’s theme is:

“Life in Our Yorkshire Village 200 Years Ago”

Imagine what life was like in a Wolds village before cars, electricity and mobile phones. What would you see, hear and do? We’d love to read your stories, poems, diary entries or letters inspired by Yorkshire’s past.

The competition is open to any child aged 16 and under, and will be judged by bestselling local author, Val Woods. The winners will be announced at the village fete on the 1st of August.
Entries can be dropped to JB Fuels in Fridaythorpe, or photographed/scanned and emailed directly to us at [email protected]. Any questions please feel free to email or drop us a Facebook message.
We can’t wait to read what you create 🌿

💚 Could you spare an hour or two?
Village fetes don’t happen by magic. We’re always grateful for volunteers to help get the village looking its best beforehand or to lend a hand setting up on the morning. Many hands really do make light work!

✍️ Creative young writers… don’t miss out!
Our Creative Writing Competition closes on 15th July, so there’s still time to get your entries in. This year’s theme is inspired by Yorkshire 200 years ago, so let your imagination wander through history!

🎩 And don’t forget our Fancy Dress Competition!
Dust off your bonnets, braces, flat caps, aprons, waistcoats or anything inspired by Yorkshire life 200 years ago. Whether you’re a Victorian farmer, a shepherd, a mill worker, a lady of the manor or something completely unexpected, we’d love to see your take on Yorkshire’s past!

Please help us spread the word by sharing this post with friends and family. Every visitor, every volunteer and every raffle ticket helps make the day a success and supports our wonderful village.
