About Dromore High School

History of the School
The school was opened in 1958 and extended in 1978 to meet the increasing demand for places. A major extension scheme was completed in 1996 which provided a new block of classrooms and workshops. The inside of the original building has also been completely refurbished. A new playing field complex, on the Banbridge Road, is now available for use and

includes a floodlit all-weather pitch and tennis court. Two additional Science rooms were added in 1999. Dromore High School is a co-educational and non-selective school situated twenty miles south of Belfast in the centre of County Down. It serves over 1000 pupils originating from an area surrounding the school. We are extremely proud of our ethos, academic achievements, extra curricular opportunities, good discipline and the friendly and caring environment, all of which are reflected in our Vision Statement, ‘Caring for Children’. Year 11C GCSE Food and Nutrition in Action!

Our talented Year 11 students have been putting their skills to the test in Food & Nutrition this week- creating and decorating delicious brownies to an exceptionally high standard! 🍫✨
From perfectly baked textures to beautifully finished designs, students showcased outstanding creativity, using a wide variety of imaginative garnishes to elevate their work. From drizzles to intricate piping and decorative toppings, every bake was unique and thoughtfully presented.
This practical session demonstrated not only their growing technical ability, but also key skills such as organisation, time management, and attention to detail- all essential for success in their GCSE practical exam.
It was fantastic to see so much confidence, independence, and creativity in action in the kitchen.
👏 Well done, everyone- a brilliant effort all round! 👏

🌟🦆🐤BIOLOGY NEWS🐤🦆🌟

This week it has been exceptionally busy in Mrs McCully's room - the ducks have doubled in size and are now ready to move to their next stage, the first 5 chicks are feathering up well and will be heading back to the Blakely family soon.

We had the arrival of 10 new chicks from our next incubator, and they are all healthy and thriving, and very cute!
One more hatch date to come and all will be complete for this year.
Pupils have been getting involved in the husbandry and care, and Mrs McCully is delighted with the success of this new Biology initiative! 🎉

Ulster Schools’ Track & Field
Last week Dromore High School pupils once again pitted their wits against the top athletes in Ulster. All pupils achieved top 10 performances with our most experienced pair, Ellie and Joshua, continuing their success over recent years in winning medals (1 bronze & 2 golds).
The Ulster Schools’ Track & Field, known as the ‘Ulsters’, took place over 2 days at the Mary Peters Track in Belfast. On the Wednesday John and Grace produced excellent performances in very windy conditions.

On Saturday the weather was cool & wet! Harry matched his performance in the ‘Districts’ with another great run (100m), Emily recovered well after two ‘no throws’ (Discus) and Hannah was visibly delighted with her new PB in the High Jump. Our youngest qualifier, Anna, was well ‘in the mix’ for bronze before just clipping the bar in the High Jump – this was even more impressive as she faced rain throughout her competition.

Yet again, both Ellie (Shot Put) and Joshua (100m/200m) did themselves, and the school, proud as they continued to win medals at the highest level having moved from the Intermediate to Senior age-group. Ellie secured a bronze with another stylish series of throws in the Shot – she has consistently demonstrated this level of dedication and fully deserves the success she has achieved. Joshua repeated his double gold medal-winning feat from last year when he secured Ulster titles in both the 200m and the 100m (described as the ‘blue riband event’ of the Ulster Schools’ Championships).

Well done all!!
