‼️⚠️ An important appeal from us ⚠️‼️
As you've no doubt seen, a young man tragically lost his life just up the road from us at Rother Valley Country Park yesterday.
Over the bank holiday weekend, four other teenagers have also tragically died in separate open water incidents across the UK.
We're asking everyone to help get the message about the risks of open water to as many young people as possible.
If you have children, or children in your family, please speak to them about the dangers - no matter how strong a swimmer they are, and make sure they know how to Float to Live. Please also encourage them to share this message with their friends.
Do not be tempted to cool off in lakes, reservoirs, rivers or quarries!
Hidden hazards, strong currents and very low temperatures can cause cold water shock—leading to rapid breathing, increased heart rate, muscle cramps and, as we've seen this weekend, this can end in drowning.
If you did find yourself in trouble in water and resist the urge to panic.
If you happen across someone in distress in open water, do not enter the water to assist, call 999 immediately and ask for the fire service.
