A visit from our friend Pardeep 🛒

We had a lovely visit at the café yesterday from Pardeep from Droxford’s Merington Stores, who popped in with Darwen for coffee and a chat. He very kindly brought along some donations for our Chocolate Tombola. Now, I’m really hoping that box of Lindt is destined for me… Lindt Dor is my absolute favourite!

Merington Stores are great supporters of Wilfrid’s. They supply our milk and give us a discount, which means they’re helping us keep our costs down — and in turn, helping us treat our customers too.

And if you haven’t seen the shop’s new look with their new supplier Go Local, do pop in and have a look. It looks lovely! Merington Stores, Garrison Hill,

SO MANY LOCAL TREATS AT WILFRID’S PRODUCE MARKET!

Our Community Table is going to be bursting with wonderful things that have been grown, made or gathered locally — and there’s so much to discover!

Borderlands Bakery from Droxford will be there with their coveted artisan loaves, plus those amazing almond croissants and cinnamon buns. Yum, yum! 😋

The Bakers Arms will also have a table, with their new Assistant Chef Tobias bringing along canapés and tasty bites from their menu for you to try.

And then there’s our wonderful village produce:
🍯 Monty’s Drizzle raw honey
🥚 Free-range eggs from Sally
🌸 Nigel & Jo’s hollyhock seeds
🍎 Apples from Jean
🌿 Herb bunches from Debbie
🍐 Pears from Michael
🍑 Plums from Roger
🫐 Hedgerow blackberries picked by our local children

And, of course, our amazing community of bakers will be filling the cake table with delicious homemade goodies.

Love chocolate? Our Chocolate Tombola is helping raise money for the church — and if you win two bars, well… why not eat them both?!

Children will have plenty to do too, including helping to create our huge communal Bayeux Tapestry-style artwork featuring scenes from our village. There’ll be games and lots of fun.

So, once you’ve enjoyed your coffee and cake, have a wander around the tables, meet our local producers, play some games, buy a raffle ticket and see if you can win one of our lovely treat-filled prizes.

There’ll be so many treats to take home — and lots of happy memories of a fun morning in the village.

Calling all young people:
HELP US CREATE A DROXFORD MASTERPIECE!
This Bank Holiday Monday, children visiting Wilfrid’s Produce Market can help create something very special for the village. Stephen has been busy designing a long panoramic line drawing of Droxford, inspired by the famous Bayeux Tapestry. It stretches across one long roll of paper and features 13 different views of the village, including the Village Hall. Our communal colouring table will be set up so children can all join in — adding their own colours to the picture, making friends as they colour and helping to create one large village masterpiece. Once it’s finished, the coloured panorama will be displayed as a Bayeux Tapestry-style view of Droxford — created by the children of our local community.

Come along, pick up a crayon and add your bit to the picture! 🎨

📅 Bank Holiday Monday 31 August
⏰ 10am–1.30pm
📍 Droxford Village Hall

And there’ll be plenty more children’s activities, alongside our Produce Market, cakes, coffee and local goodies!

WHO DOESN’T LOVE CHOCOLATE? We all do, right? We’re looking for donations of chocolate for the Chocolate Tombola at our Produce Market on Bank Holiday Monday, 31 August. It will run alongside children’s activities, so there’ll be plenty of fun to be had!
And if you’re not one of those people who loves chocolate… perhaps you have an unwanted box or bar of chocolate sitting in the cupboard that was given as a gift and you don’t know what to do with? Please donate it to our Chocolate Tombola. All proceeds will go to the PCC to support the church. So please have a rummage in those cupboards and donate any suitable chocolate you can spare!
Donations can be dropped off at Wilfrid’s Café or at 1 Park Lane, on the droxford school crossroads
And please share this post — the more chocolate we collect, the more money we can raise for the church!

Meet Amelia – one of our young volunteers at Wilfrid’s Café

When people think about volunteering, they often imagine they need lots of spare time or years of experience. Amelia proves that’s simply not true. Whether she’s welcoming visitors with a smile or helping behind the scenes, she’s been a valued member of the Wilfrid’s family since 2024.

When asked about her volunteering experience, Amelia said:

“My Mum was looking around at local volunteering opportunities. We saw Wilfrid’s and we both decided it looked great. I love seeing people, it’s something I don’t get to do a lot of, what with me doing online school, so seeing new and familiar faces regularly is really refreshing for me. In terms of fitting it in, I’m lucky enough to have spaces and free periods in my timetable, usually I can fit shifts around those gaps and rewatch my lessons later. Volunteering is such a beneficial and versatile experience - it helps from a career point as well as a social perspective and is always worth a try.”

We’re so proud to have Amelia, along with our other young volunteers; they bring fresh energy, confidence and enthusiasm to the café.

Thank you, Amelia, for everything you do. We’re so lucky to have you as part of the Wilfrid’s team.

Wilfrid’s Grants in Action – Nicky’s Laos Expedition 🇱🇦🐘

One of the ways Wilfrid’s gives back to our community is through grants — and we love hearing what those grants help make possible.

We were delighted to award £500 to Nicky towards his fundraising for a student expedition to Laos next year.

Nicky chose Laos because he wanted to experience somewhere completely different — a new continent, country, culture and way of life. As part of the expedition, he’ll be working at an elephant sanctuary, helping with feeding, cleaning and the day-to-day care of the elephants, while developing skills in leadership, teamwork, decision-making and practical problem-solving.

He’s particularly looking forward to meeting and caring for the elephants… although he also admits he’s rather excited about the very long flight and the accommodation! ✈️😄

Our £500 grant has helped take Nicky’s fundraising total to over £1,000 and, he says, has really inspired him to keep fundraising towards his target.

And we loved Nicky’s mum’s message to everyone who supports Wilfrid’s:

“Thank you so much to everyone who has supported Wilfrid’s… for keeping it stable throughout the past year, and for all the years to come!” ❤️

This is exactly why your support of Wilfrid’s matters. Every coffee, cake, bacon bap and visit helps us put money back into our community.

Good luck with the rest of your fundraising, Nicky — we can’t wait to hear all about your adventure! 🐘🌏
