This morning, our volunteers were involved in helping planted oak and aspen to establish themselves by thinning surrounding non-natives, and the ubiquitous and rapidly growing silver birch and alder, providing more light, water and nutrients for our planted trees. Volunteers were nourished by grazing on the thousands of wild raspberries currently fruiting. 🙂

This morning, our local volunteers were clearing some impressively deep bracken, and some non-native species, from around some of the younger trees, with the aim of providing them with more light. These trees include aspen, oak and wild cherry.

We meet at the Two Trees carpark the first Saturday of the month. New volunteers are always welcome! 🙂

Storm Dave depending, tomorrow morning (Sat 4th) we will be weeding out beech saplings again from Blairbeg wood. We are meeting at 9:45 at the woodbank, opposite the church. Bring gloves.🙂

Tomorrow morning we will be weeding out beech saplings from Blairbeg wood, and also fundraising, by serving teas at the farmers market in the village hall. We are meeting at 9:45 at the woodbank, opposite the church, to sort who goes where. The first CWA working group meet of the year is this Saturday, 7th February, where we'll be planting trees. Meet at the two trees, Craigmonie Woods carpark at 09:45.

🎄 Festive Community Wood Update! 🎄

Thanks to funding support from GURCA, Craigmonie Woodland Association were able to enlist David Ferguson and his mighty log splitter to turn the trees felled last year in Blairbeg Wood, plus extra timber kindly donated by the Woodland Trust into firewood, now safely seasoning in the wood bank for next winter. 🔥🌲

A huge thank you to the incredible CWA team who turned out for a full day of hard work feeding the machine 💪✨.
And those same CWA Christmas elves have been out and about this week delivering bags of firewood to some of our older residents 🎁❤️.

We still have plenty of seasoned wood ready to burn this winter, and we’ll be arranging another uplift day in January.

Our next working group meeting is tomorrow, Saturday 5th July! We will be concentrating on clearing broom and bracken from around young trees to help them establish. Volunteers will be meeting at the Tall Trees carpark at the entrance to Craigmonie woods at 09:45.
