The YMCA would like to invite people across
the Black Country to join them in an evening of celebration of 5 years of the YMCA Open Doorproject.

YMCA Open Door has been placing homeless teenagers in family homes since 2009. Today, the project has around 70 Hosts providing over 12,000 nights of supported lodgings a year right across the Black Country!
In recognition of all it has achieved over the past 5 years, YMCA Black Country Group will be holding a Charity Ball on Saturday 29th March, at West Bromwich Albion Football Club to raise £5000 to help homeless young people move on to independent accommodation.

The event will consist of a Champagne Reception with a 3 Course meal, followed by after dinner speeches from Blind Dave Heeley and Martin Houghton - Brown, CEO ofDepaul UK and entertainment from the 2tonics - the best tribute band to the Specials, until 12am.

Tickets are available at £50 each with table discounts available.
Anyone interested in supporting this special occasion should contact Rachael Taylor on 0121 524 1957

Housing the homeless

you were at the last ACE event back in Nov. 2013, you would have heard Matt Lambert's presentation for a new initiative for the Black Country (not just one house in Wolverhampton) where he would have a series of houses accommodating two to three vulnerable adults, each supported by a trained volunteer team from a local church.

Matt Lambert
Since then, they have been working closely with Hope Into Action, a charity based in the East of England where they have already been doing this for a number of years and now have a proven model which can be replicated in other parts of the country. They have received offers from 2 investors and an offer has been accepted on what will be their first property

This week it was discovered that there had been a break in at the nearby Hawbush Community Gardens which has caused large scale damage to the building.
Paint has been thrown onto the walls, windows have been smashed, doors have been broken, the toilet has been blocked and damaged, machinery has been vandalised, fire extinguishers let off and there are countless acts of mindless damage.

Simon Ashby (Fish) who runs the Hawbush Project said: "I can't tell you how disheartened I was when I went to the site today removed the metal shutter and saw the door had been kicked in and the scale of the damage was deeply saddening."
"But as with all these things it just reminds me why we do the things we do, and why for the Amblecote Christian Centre, local mission is so vitally important. Somewhere in our community, a group of young people (We assume) have done this, and those people may only be changed the day they become a Christian and are born again. We take heart from such events that help is still needed"

Farewell Wendy!

The board of trustees for Black Country Foodbank have announced the news that Wendy Fryatt their founding CEO is to leave Foodbank .

Wendy says, "This has been an incredible journey from foundation on my own dining-room table to BCFB becoming a well-respected regional charity. Together we've fed some 48000+ people, clothed countless people and you all know I lost count some time ago of all the sleeping-bags.
My prayer is that the work of BCFB goes on from strength to strength, that they enjoy their new space at Albion Street, how could God's favour not rest on something so close to His heart - the poor."
