☀️ Staying safe around water this half-term
With the warm weather here and schools out for half-term, we know it can be really tempting to cool off in rivers, canals, lakes or reservoirs.

We want everyone in Dudley borough to enjoy the sunshine safely – especially our younger residents.

If you’re heading out with family or friends, please keep these simple tips in mind and share them with your children too:

💦 The water might look inviting, but it’s often much colder than you expect – cold water shock can be dangerous
💦 Try not to go alone – being with others can make a big difference in an emergency
💦 If there’s no lifeguard, it’s best to stay out of the water

We’re sharing tips to help you make safe choices so everyone can enjoy the heatwave and get home safely.

🩺 High blood sugar and diabetes can raise your risk of stroke.
If your blood sugar is borderline but you don’t have diabetes yet, you may be able to stop diabetes from happening.

✅ The good news? You can take action now.

👉 Get your blood sugar checked regularly
👉 Speak to your GP/practice nurse
👉 Go to your free NHS Health Check (every 5 years)
👉 If you already have diabetes, see your GP at least once a year for an annual check up

A quick check today could help stop a stroke in the future.

❗UPDATE❗
The heat health alert for the West Midlands has now been upgraded to amber. The alert is in place from 2pm today (22 May) until 5pm on Wednesday 27 May.

☀️ Sun’s coming out…and it’s timed it perfectly with the school holidays!
Looks like we’re in for the first proper warm spell of the year.

While we’re enjoying it, let’s all keep an eye out for neighbours, friends or family who might struggle in the heat — especially older people or anyone with health conditions.

A quick check-in, a glass of water, or helping keep their home cool can make a big difference.

The UK Health Security Agency has issued a yellow heat-health alert for the West Midlands from this coming Friday, until the Wednesday of half-term, so it’s a good time to look after ourselves and each other.
