Children and young people in Dudley Primary and Secondary schools are being offered the free flu nasal spray vaccine to protect them this winter. Look out for an electronic consent form in your inbox.

A pork-free vaccine is also available if preferred, simply state this when giving consent.

If your child missed their flu vaccination at school, don't worry. They can catch-up at one of the Vaccination UK clinics being held over the coming week. See the link in the comments for more details.

October 19 to 25 is International Infection Prevention Week 2026.

There's a lot to celebrate when we think back over the journey of infection prevention.

This week we'll take a look at how far infection prevention has come from plague doctors of the 1600s to the infection preventionists of tomorrow.

Early infection prevention
People did not know that germs caused disease. They thought illness came from "bad air." To stop outbreaks, sick people were kept away from others.
The Black Death (plague) killed millions of people. Doctors wore long coats, gloves, boots, and beaked masks to protect themselves.

The Village Hotel, Dudley on Thursday 15 and Friday 16 October 4-8pm and
Pure Gym, Brierley Hill Saturday 17 and Sunday 18 October 10am-2pm both days.
Available to women and people with a cervix aged 25-64 years. No appointment is needed.
It’s quick, private and done by a female nurse.
If you have any concerns or queries pop along for a chat and the team will be happy to help.
