The Cabin

Directions Website

The Cabin The Committee hold regular meetings (every 4-6 weeks approx.) to which all parents are invited.

The Cabin is a Community Group that is owned and managed by the parents of the children on the Register, and is in Partnership with The Moray Childcare Partnership andThe Moray Council. Representatives of the parents are elected to a Committee to serve as office bearers, who oversee the day-to-day running of the Centre and are the employers of the staff. Your views are welcomed on such matters as ideas for outings, new equipment, fundraising, play ideas etc. In August 2013 we changed our name from Dufftown Preschool Centre to The Cabin to promote our position of providing 2s group, nursery and out of school care. The Group is registered with The Scottish Commission for The Regulation Of Care
(Social Care Social Work Improvement Scotland) and is a member of Care and learning Alliance. At the moment The Cabin consists of

• Nursery (Monday to Friday 8.50-2.50)

Aims and objectives

1. Provide a safe, clean, well-organised environment which gives children the opportunity to learn and become independent within a well structured group.
2. Enable parents/guardians to continue in their employment confident in the knowledge that their children are being cared for in the way that they would wish.
3. Maintain good quality care providing a wide and varied range of activities.
4. Ensure that our equal opportunities policy is put into practice at all times.
5. Identify and provide relevant training for staff, including that required to meet SSSC requirements
6. Respect and involve parents in the care and education of their child. The Centre offers a wide range of play activities to the children at each session. Allowing the children to participate in many play activities and learning experiences, giving them help and encouragement along the way will achieve the aims

The Cabin recognizes that all children and adults are different with differing needs and abilities, but all are equally valuable. The group aims to allow everyone to reach their full potential, free from attitudes that would limit development. We hope to achieve this by ensuring the play environment and play activities are non-discriminatory and provide positive images of all the children and adults living in our society.

🍁 And just like that, we’ve reached the end of another term! 🍁

Our first term back after the holidays has flown by and been packed with adventures! This term, we focused on settling in, particularly welcoming our new Acorns. 🌳

🍁 We were delighted to welcome our new Acorns and their families to The Cabin. They have settled in beautifully, and our Oaks have been fantastic role models, helping our Acorns learn our routines and making them feel welcome, safe and included. 🌳🍁

🌈 UNCRC Articles 2, 3 and 29 – Supporting inclusion, children’s best interests and the development of respect, friendships and individual abilities.

🍁 Our first adventure of the new term was a treasure hunt in the community. We followed a map with lots of interesting things to find and tick off along the way. Our adventure eventually led us to the Beinn, where the children had the opportunity to choose a book to buy and enjoy back at The Cabin. 🗺️📖

🌈 UNCRC Articles 12, 17, 28 and 31 – Supporting children’s choices, access to books and information, learning through exploration and the right to play.

🍁 All the children also took part in the flower show. They voted on what they wanted to enter, and we were delighted to see so many fantastic creations! There were some wonderful entries, and several children won prizes for their hard work and creativity. 🌸🎨🍕

🌈 UNCRC Articles 12, 13 and 31 – Giving children opportunities to express their views, make decisions, be creative and participate in cultural activities.

🍁 What a fantastic success our first fundraiser of the year was! We hosted a coffee morning and were completely blown away by the incredible generosity and kindness shown through the many donations we received. We’re so lucky to be part of such a wonderful community that continues to support us. ☕🍰😊

We were able to purchase some lovely new wheeled toys for the children, and they have already been having so much fun exploring and playing with them! 🚲

🌈 UNCRC Articles 6 and 31 – Supporting children’s development, active play and opportunities to learn through movement and exploration.

🍁 We recently held our settling-in meetings, giving us the opportunity to chat with parents about how they feel their children have settled back into The Cabin. It was also lovely to meet with our new Acorn families and share how well their little ones are settling in.

The meetings were a huge success, and it was wonderful to hear such positive feedback from our families. A big thank you to all our parents for taking the time to come along and for continuing to work in partnership with us. Your support and communication are so important in helping our little ones feel happy, secure and settled. ❤️

🌈 UNCRC Articles 3, 5 and 18 – Recognising the importance of children’s best interests, parents’ roles and positive partnerships between families and practitioners.

🍁 We continued our termly visits to Aigan Court, and it was so lovely to see our friends there again! 🍁🎵🎨

We had a wonderful time enjoying autumn-themed colouring activities together and lots of fun singing a song or two.

🌈 UNCRC Articles 13, 29 and 31 – Encouraging creative expression, respect for others, community relationships and participation in cultural activities.

🍁 SHANARRI Rainbow Celebration! 🌈

The children have worked really hard to earn their SHANARRI jigsaw pieces throughout their Cabin day this term. They earn pieces by demonstrating our eight wellbeing indicators: Safe, Healthy, Achieving, Nurtured, Active, Respected, Responsible and Included.

Once earned, they pop their pieces into our SHANARRI Rainbow. 🌈

Once the rainbow is complete, the children earn a special treat! To celebrate filling their rainbow this term, we all enjoyed a lovely meal at The Coffee Pot. What a wonderful way to end a fantastic first term back! 🤩

🌈 UNCRC Articles 2, 3, 12 and 31 – Promoting inclusion, wellbeing, children’s participation and opportunities to enjoy positive experiences together.

🌳 At The Cabin, children’s rights are at the heart of what we do. Through play, friendships, community adventures and everyday choices, we aim to ensure every child feels safe, respected, included and valued.

🍁 Here’s to lots more adventures in Term 2! 😊
