Well done to all of the teams that played today against Merchiston Castle School and Fettes College Prep School | Edinburgh Independent School - a great way to finish the season for Under 9s, Under 11s and the senior girls.

There was also a thrilling match out at Winterfield as the seniors prepared for the Patrol Cricket competition on Saturday - should be an exciting finale as the Patrol Shield contest enters the final straight.

Well done to the Under 12 team that travelled down to Yorkshire for two great days of cricket.

A stunning setting Terrington Hall saw a great match develop - a narrow 2 run loss setting the team up really well for a very competitive day at the 8-a-side tournament today.

Two good wins against Aysgarth and Mowden before a 7 run loss to St Peter’s meant a semi-final against a very strong Trent College side, who won a high quality game by 9 runs. A 3rd place finish overall was a great result for the Belhaven team who saw some brilliant cricketers playing on a beautiful ground - and came home with a new set of kit!

Thank you to Angus M and Mr Brown for taking them.

It was fascinating and exciting to welcome voice actress and author Lizzie Waterworth to Belhaven today.

Lizzie - perhaps most famous so far for voicing ‘Horrid Henry’ and able to silence a room full of Belhavians with a rendition of his cheeky chuckle - spoke to the whole school this morning in an assembly on the importance of being able to find your own voice.

Her book - ‘How To Talk So People Will Listen’ - includes some brilliant tips - ask your children what to do with a lemon - and these were later confirmed as Lizzie completed a workshop with every year group, finishing the day with a ‘Dragon’s Den’ style challenge for Form 1.

It was a great pleasure to welcome you to Belhaven - please come and see us again soon!

On their first day back after our late half term break, the Form 1s celebrated their brilliant CE results with the first day of the Leavers’ programme.

First up - the legendary Belhaven ‘Iron Will’, a triathlon that challenges them all to give their best amidst scenes of great support. Tired but happy, we celebrated their academic efforts with dinner in the Walled Garden in place of prep. A great start to what will be a memorable fortnight for them all!

What an incredible array of poetic talent we saw today!

Inspired by iconic pieces of art, this year’s Poetry Competition produced the highest standard seen at Belhaven for many years.

Adjudicator James Walsh had the unenviable task of selecting winners for illustration, composition and declamation - and he did it brilliantly.

Well done indeed to Calantha, winner of the Senior prize, and Dulcie, winner of the Junior cup, and to everyone that performed today. Thank you to Mr Purkiss and the English department for your inspirational work.

Well done to the Prep school for a wonderful evening of ensemble music in the Summer Music Showcase!

Samba drumming, Pipe Band, Chamber Choir, Junior Choir, String Quartet, Wind Band, String Ensemble, Rock Band and Guitar Group all featured in a dazzling and occasionally deafening cacophony - two hours of amazing confidence and talent, delivered by smiling faces.

Thank you to Mrs Scott and the whole team who work so hard to support the children’s music. See you all for some Poetry tomorrow morning!

It’s been a really busy weekend at Belhaven! We were delighted to host 30 senior schools at our biennial fair - thank you all for making the effort to come to see us and we hope that you enjoyed your day!

After a drinks party to welcome Neil and Gigi Tomlin yesterday evening, we enjoyed Head of Admissions Jonny Hammond-Chambers’ ode to Sir David Attenborough at our service this morning and his encouragement to us all to look up, out and down in order to notice the small things.

This afternoon, the children have been surfing at Belhaven Bay with .c2c, cooking with , hosting a senior tennis festival and playing at the 8-a-side tournament. Well done to Wilbur for winning the bowler of the tournament award!

We wish Rafe and Holly the best of luck tomorrow as they represent Belhaven and Scotland in the national prep schools’ debating final.

A truly unforgettable Pre-Prep Showcase today as the Music, Drama and Art of our 4-8 year olds was seen in all of its wondrous variety.

After Form 6s incredible ‘Chilly Sheep’ animation (enjoyed with homemade popcorn) came a joyous procession of solo and ensemble performances on recorder, piano, guitar, harp, snare drum, ukulele, violin, chanter, voice and claasach - all confidently introduced and performed with accompanying grin.

After our annual serenade of the mysterious Purple Gecko (and his new friend, Strawberry), it was time to enjoy the Art on display in the Drawing Room.

Well done to everyone involved in putting on a truly brilliant afternoon for parents, friends and grandparents.

The impact on the children of the visit of Sammi Kinghorn OBE today was truly wonderful to see.

Britain’s fastest ever female wheelchair racer, winner of 4 Paralympic medals at the Paris Games of 2024, Sammi spoke with sincerity, humility, bravery and passion about her accident and subsequent discovery of wheelchair racing. She spoke of overcoming adversity, dealing with anxiety and how to embrace failure.

Thank you to Rocco for being brave enough to invite this icon of the world of athletics to Belhaven for what will be a significant turning point in many young Belhavians’ perception of what is possible.

Thank you for coming to see us.

Although our Under 11 matches at Ardvreck sadly had to be cancelled, we were delighted to host their three senior teams for some brilliant matches at Belhaven just before the rain reached us too.

Congratulations to Alexander for his 50 - the third of this season already - and to all that played today.
