🌹 Cllr Kevin Keenan is stepping down as leader of Dundee Labour’s group after nearly two decades in the role.

Speaking to The Courier, he said it was the right moment to make way for fresh leadership to help “shape the direction” of the group.

Councillor George McIrvine - Coldside Ward will step into the role this Monday, and has paid tribute to his predecessor, thanking Kevin for almost 20 years at the helm and noting how much he had learned from him over this time.

He added that the group must “listen and deliver for people” and set out a clear plan for moving forward ahead of the 2027 Dundee City Council elections.

Everyone at Dundee Labour is deeply saddened by the loss of former Councillor Tom Ferguson.

Members paid tribute to Tom last night at our monthly meeting with a minute’s silence.

Councillor Keenan added: “As a councillor for Lochee, Menzieshill and Charleston, Tom was extremely committed to his area and the people he represented.”

Thoughts are with his family at this difficult time.🌹

🚨 An update on the locked gates on the land at Dryburgh Crescent.

🔐 Due to complaints from the community about anti social behaviour on the cleared demolition site, and it being deemed not suitable for recreation use, the gates have been reinstated and locked by DCC.

📍Cllr Wendy Scullin was out in the Lochee ward today, holding another one of our summer street surgeries.

🌱 Plenty of learning on the doors — from the condition of our streets, to calls for more unused spaces to be brought into public use, and concerns about speeding in residential areas.

🌹 A vote for a Dundee Labour next May can bring about the change people want to see in their communities!

📍Cllr Dorothy McHugh was out and about in the East End ward today holding a street surgery.

🚦 A wide range of issues were raised — potholes, pavements, and several road safety concerns including access onto Arbroath Road and 20mph limits.

🌹 Only Dundee Labour are willing to put in the work to fix our city.

🗞️ July Update 🗞️

This month, I supported a family in accessing an urgent CAMHS assessment, resolved vandalism issues around Alexander Street Playpark, assisted residents with urgent hedge trimming at Moncur Crescent, and held a street surgery at Fingask Street.

📍 Lochee High Street Community Meeting

This evening I hosted a meeting focused on the future of Lochee High Street, bringing together local traders, charities, council officers and Police Scotland.

We discussed the ongoing challenges around anti‑social behaviour, the need to increase footfall and strengthen the High Street’s role as a community hub. There was also early, positive conversation about forming a Lochee Traders Association to give local businesses a stronger collective voice.

I’m grateful to everyone who attended and contributed. There’s real appetite for collaboration, and tonight was a solid step toward building a safer, busier and more confident High Street.

🏥 Today, it has been confirmed that Dundee’s Kingsway Care Centre will close.

Michael Marra, MSP for North East Scotland, said: “These plans for closure raise urgent questions about the provision of older persons’ psychiatry services in the city.

“NHS Tayside must tell the public what provision will be available that is accessible to local people and their loved ones, helping them to access care or to visit them while they are receiving care.

MSP Michael Marra says the move is "extremely worrying".
