From captain to sailor (and even the ship’s cat 🐈), our dress-up collection gives visitors the chance to step into the past and bring life aboard HMS Unicorn to life.

☕⚓ BREW & BLETHER! ☕⚓

Join us aboard HMS Unicorn on Thursday 3 September for our next Brew & Blether - with a fascinating talk on the Kalmar Nyckel.

The Kalmar Nyckel is a replica of the original 17th-century tall ship of the same name, and this time we’ll be hearing all about her from someone with first-hand experience…

Our very own volunteer Aneirin will be giving the talk, having previously worked aboard the ship himself! ⚓

Come along for a cuppa, a blether and a chance to discover more about the history, construction and life aboard this fascinating tall ship.

⚓ Another view of a moment in HMS Unicorn’s history ⚓️

Following our recent post looking back at the move of HMS Unicorn to Dundee, we’ve got a few more photographs to share…

These incredible images were taken by Gordon Craig’s dad at the same time as the photographs we shared previously - but from a completely different angle.

Captured in black and white, they offer another glimpse of HMS Unicorn during her move to Dundee and the effort involved in bringing her to the city she has called home ever since!

We’re incredibly grateful to Gordon for sharing these photographs with us and helping us preserve another perspective on this important moment in HMS Unicorn’s story!

We’re looking for new Trustees to join the Board of HMS Unicorn ⚓

This is a rare opportunity to play a meaningful role in securing the long-term future of one of the world’s oldest surviving warships – and one of Scotland’s most significant maritime heritage assets.

We’re particularly keen to hear from people with experience in finance, capital project management, HR, fundraising, heritage or conservation – but we welcome anyone who can bring fresh perspective, sound judgement and a genuine commitment to our mission.

We’re also seeking one individual with the potential to become Chair of the Board in the future.

The role is voluntary, with a time commitment of approximately 10 hours per month.

Closing date: 10 September 2026.

Today we celebrated the official launch of Dianne Kelly’s Figurehead Exhibition onboard - what a special afternoon it was!

A DJCAD graduate bringing her debut exhibition to Scotland’s oldest ship - we’re so proud to host it ⚓️

On display until December - come onboard and meet them. We think they’ll make you think… 👀

64 years ago this November, HMS Unicorn made a very important journey… ⚓

These archive photos from 1962 capture the moment she was towed from Earl Grey Dock to Camperdown - a move that played a crucial part in securing her future and preserving her for generations to come.

She’s been here ever since. Come and see her for yourself!
