Dundee Corps - 'like' us for up to date information on events, plus pictures from the past! In 1878 The Christian Mission was renamed The Salvation Army.

Since The Salvation Army was born on the streets of the East End of London in 1865, we have gone from strength to strength – carrying on the commitment of our founders to serve God and to serve suffering humanity by fighting against social injustice. As military terminology became more commonplace, Booth became known as the 'General', a suitable shortening of the title of 'General Superintendent'

that he held as the head of The Christian Mission. A 'Deed of Constitution' outlining his duties and responsibilities, which included the power to appoint a successor, was drawn up. Mission station preachers were given the rank of Captain and uniforms suitable to the ranks followed. A military discipline governed the lives of the officers. Writing in 'The Salvationist' in 1879 Booth summed up the purpose of the Army in the following simple but striking way: "We are a salvation people - this is our specialty - getting saved and keeping saved, and then getting somebody else saved, and then getting saved ourselves more and more until full salvation on earth makes the heaven within, which is finally perfected by the full salvation without, on the other side of the river." The Salvation Army is the largest provider of social care in the UK today, after the government. The work started in the 1880s and continues to grow and develop in a range of areas including homelessness, addiction services and anti human trafficking. Music forms an integral part of Salvation Army worship and evangelism. Bands and songster brigades are an important part of church life and public events with the brass band as the most recognised feature of Salvation Army music.

⏳ FOOD FOR THOUGHT | ARE YOU WAITING FOR SOMETHING?

Waiting… we all do it.

☕ For the kettle to boil.
🚌 For the bus to turn up.
💷 For payday.
📱 For that message or phone call.
🙏 For an answer to prayer.
❤️ For life to finally change.

Some waiting is just annoying.

Other waiting can be really hard.

Maybe there’s something you’ve been praying about for weeks, months or even years. Maybe you’re wondering why nothing seems to be happening.

But what if nothing happening and God doing nothing aren’t the same thing?

📖 “Wait for the Lord; be strong and take heart and wait for the Lord.” — Psalm 27:14

We naturally want answers. We want to know when, why and what happens next.

But sometimes faith means trusting God before we can see what He is doing.

Perhaps instead of only asking:

“God, when are You going to change this?”

We could also ask:

“God, how are You changing me through this?”

Because waiting time doesn’t have to be wasted time.

God can be working in ways we cannot yet see — strengthening us, preparing us, teaching us and drawing us closer to Him.

❤️ Whatever you’re waiting for today, you don’t have to wait alone. God is there in the waiting too.

What a powerful morning of worship, praise and prayer we shared at Dundee Salvation Army.

📖 Through Luke 5:17–26, we reflected on the paralysed man whose faithful friends were determined to get him to Jesus. When the crowd blocked their way, they didn’t give up. They climbed onto the roof and lowered their friend right to the feet of Jesus.

They couldn’t fix his situation themselves, but they knew who could.

❤️ Faith brings people to Jesus, not to ourselves.

We won’t always have the answers or be able to fix what someone is facing, but we can pray, keep praying and carry them to Jesus when they may not have the strength themselves.

This led us into a powerful time of prayer and reflection, bringing before God situations across our world and those much closer to our own hearts.

“Somebody prayed for me.”

What a wonderful thing to be able to say. Someone cared, someone believed and someone didn’t give up.

🙏 As we begin a new week, may we thank God for those who have carried us in prayer, and may we be that faithful friend for someone else.

❤️ What’s the same today as it was yesterday?

The Dundee weather? Well… give it five minutes! ☀️🌧️😂
Our plans? They change.
Life? It keeps moving forward.

Change can bring new beginnings, new opportunities and new possibilities. But through every season, there is one constant we can always hold on to.

📖 “Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and for ever.” — Hebrews 13:8

What a wonderful promise. The Jesus who brought hope yesterday is our hope today and will still be our hope tomorrow.

And that hope is for everyone. ❤️

🌉 FOOD FOR THOUGHT | WHO WILL YOU BUILD A BRIDGE TO?

Stand beside the silvery River Tay and two of Dundee’s most recognisable landmarks dominate the view, the Tay Road Bridge and the Tay Rail Bridge.

Two shores.
A wide river between them.
And bridges making a way across.

But what about the gaps that exist in our own lives?

A friendship that has gone quiet.
A family disagreement that has lasted too long.
Someone we keep meaning to check on.
A person we struggle to understand.
A distance between ourselves and God.

It is easy to stay safely on our side of the divide.

Jesus calls us to something different.

📖 “Blessed are the peacemakers, for they will be called children of God.” — Matthew 5:9

A bridge has to reach both sides.

Perhaps following Jesus sometimes looks exactly like that, being willing to reach across the gap. To listen before judging. To forgive when it is difficult. To speak when silence is easier. To show kindness when we could simply walk away.

And that is exactly what God has done for us.

📖 “But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.” — Romans 5:8

Through Jesus, God built the bridge we could never build ourselves.

So next time you look across the silvery Tay and see those bridges stretching from shore to shore, remember:

You never know what might happen when somebody is brave enough to build a bridge.

🙏 What would it look like to take one step towards God?

Maybe today, instead of building another wall, we could build a bridge.
