Developing the Young Workforce, Tay Cities Connecting employers, education and Young People to help employers meet workforce needs We work to bring businesses and education closer together.

Developing the Young Workforce (DYW) Tay Cities is one of several DYW groups across Scotland. We help implement the Scottish Government DYW strategy, which aims to reduce youth unemployment and help young people get the right skills and experiences to move from education into employment. This helps young people become more work ready through taking part in quality work-related activities, growing work-based learning like apprenticeships and collaborating on work- focused curriculum. All DYW groups are industry-led. We respond to the needs of the local labour market and work with employers and education to help meet these. Our work helps young people, supports employers of all sizes to meet their workforce need and ultimately helps grow the local economy.

👩‍🍳 Calling all professional chefs across Tay Cities!
We’re looking for professional chefs who can spare some time to help inspire young people by sharing their skills and passion for cooking.

We have a number of full-day sessions coming up, running approximately 9am to 4pm, and would love to hear from chefs who can volunteer their time on any of the following dates:
📅 28 and 29 October
📅 4 and 5 November
You can volunteer for one day or as many as you’re available for. All volunteers will receive a briefing before the event, so you’ll know what to expect.

If you’re a chef who would like to get involved and help create a valuable experience for young people in schools across Angus, we’d love to hear from you!

An information and discussion session focussing on skills for the workforce in Perth and Kinross.

This is one of a series of two engagement events exploring opportunities for developing the workforce in the Tay Cities Region. This event is for Perth and Kinross and takes place on Tuesday 3 November, 10am - 12.30pm. It has a particular focus on sectors that feed into Scotland's aspiration towards net zero and a sustainable future.

All employers and stakeholders are welcome and will find elements of the event relevant to them - however we would especially welcome those from sectors such as renewable energy, sustainable construction, agritech, and circular economy.

Come along to hear information for employers about the support that is already available, as well as to discuss and feed into emerging and future projects and initiatives.

S5 & 6 pupils from Brechin High School recently had the opportunity to visit Abbott and learn more about the work they do and the careers available within the STEM sector.

The visit began with an introduction to Abbott and an overview of its work, followed by a tour of the GMP facilities. Pupils also had the chance to network with STEM Ambassadors and Abbott staff, ask questions and learn more about their career journeys.

A big thank you to Abbott, the STEM Ambassadors and everyone involved in welcoming the pupils and making the visit possible!

We're hiring a School Coordinator (Secondry) in Angus.

The main role of a DYW School Coordinator will be to develop and implement a programme of employer engagement aimed at enhancing the curriculum and increasing pupils’ career awareness and skills development. The post holder will work alongside senior leaders in the school and Developing the Young Workforce Core Team to deliver employer offers within the curriculum. They will support the creation and implementation of a structure for employer engagement which reflects the school’s demographic, regional and local DYW plans and maintain a robust network of partners within the local business community. In doing so, they support school leadership teams in fulfilling national priorities around employability and enterprise, Career Education Standard and Work Placement Standard.

During term time the successful candidate’s time will be split 2.5 days per school and during school holidays their base will be Dundee and Angus College, Gardyne Campus, Dundee.

Forfar Academy recently welcomed Amanda Inglis from Due North Creatives to speak to their National 5 and Higher Business Management pupils about marketing and the career opportunities available within the industry.

With marketing forming part of their course, the session was a great opportunity for pupils to connect what they are learning in the classroom with the real world.

Amanda shared her own career journey, explained the importance of marketing and gave pupils an insight into the work of Due North Creatives, including some of the projects they have delivered and the businesses they have worked with.

It was a fantastic opportunity for pupils to hear directly from someone working in the industry, learn more about what a career in marketing involves and explore the different opportunities available to them in the future.

Forfar Academy recently welcomed around 35 local employers for its annual Careers Fair, giving pupils the opportunity to explore a wide range of career options and learn more about the industries and opportunities available in their local area.

Throughout the event, pupils had the chance to speak directly with employers, ask questions and find out more about the different routes and pathways into various careers.

Alongside the employer stalls, Skills Development Scotland delivered a session on apprenticeships, Robert Gordon University highlighted the benefits of going to university, and Student Awards Agency Scotland provided information on student funding.

A fantastic opportunity for pupils to explore their options, discover new career possibilities and learn more about the different pathways available to them.

✈️ Senior pupils at Webster’s High School and Forfar Academy recently had the opportunity to learn more about the wide range of career opportunities available in the British Army

At Webster’s, pupils also got a visit from the Army Air Corps, who brought along a flight simulator and introduced them to careers in military aviation. Pupils had the chance to try their hand at flying an Army helicopter, giving them a taste of what a career in aviation could involve.

Meanwhile, S5 and S6 pupils at Forfar Academy took part in a careers talk, exploring the different roles and career pathways available within the Army.

A big thank you to the British Army for taking the time to visit both schools and give pupils an opportunity to explore careers they may not have previously considered.
