Developing the Young Workforce, Tay Cities

Developing the Young Workforce, Tay Cities Connecting employers, education and Young People to help employers meet workforce needs We work to bring businesses and education closer together.

Developing the Young Workforce (DYW) Tay Cities is one of several DYW groups across Scotland. We help implement the Scottish Government DYW strategy, which aims to reduce youth unemployment and help young people get the right skills and experiences to move from education into employment. This helps young people become more work ready through taking part in quality work-related activities, growing

work-based learning like apprenticeships and collaborating on work- focused curriculum. All DYW groups are industry-led. We respond to the needs of the local labour market and work with employers and education to help meet these. Our work helps young people, supports employers of all sizes to meet their workforce need and ultimately helps grow the local economy.

🚀 A taste of entrepreneurship at St John’s RC High School!

240 S1 pupils at St John’s RC High School in Dundee took part in an incredible Step Up with Enterprise workshop, delivered by Matt Stewart from Entrepreneur Me.

The all-day session gave pupils the opportunity to explore entrepreneurship, develop new skills and get a taste of what it takes to turn an idea into something more.

Matt was joined by 15 fantastic volunteers, including parents and employers, who gave their time to support the pupils throughout the day.

A huge well done to all 240 pupils, who were brilliant, well behaved and engaged from start to finish! 👏

A big thank you to Matt and all of the volunteers for helping make the day such a success.

🩺 Exploring careers in medicine

We were delighted to bring seniors from schools across Dundee and Angus to University of Dundee for a valuable opportunity to learn more about careers in medicine.

The sessions brought pupils together with professionals working across the medical field, giving them the chance to hear about their careers, the different paths they took and the routes into medicine.

Targeted at pupils who are considering a career in a medical field, the sessions provided a great opportunity to ask questions, gain a better understanding of what a career in medicine can look like and hear directly from those working in the sector.

It was fantastic to hear how helpful the pupils found the sessions and we hope they left feeling more informed and inspired about the opportunities available to them. 👏

🌊 Volunteering in our local community

Our Angus team spent their volunteering day helping to keep our local coastline clean, taking part in a beach clean across Monifieth and Carnoustie beaches.

It was a great opportunity to get out of the office, work together and make a positive difference to an area we’re lucky to have on our doorstep. 🌿

Throughout the summer, everyone across our team had the opportunity to spend time volunteering within the local community.

Our Dundee team had a fantastic afternoon volunteering at Menzieshill Care Home during the summer holidays. 🎶☕

Our resident songbird, Sarah Cooke, entertained residents with a wonderful selection of songs, while Natalie, Finlay, Karyn, Eilish and Sharlene served teas and spent time chatting with residents.

It was a lovely afternoon filled with music, conversation and plenty of smiles. Thank you to everyone at Menzieshill Care Home for making us feel so welcome. 💙

🌿 Taking learning outdoors with Recalibrate Outdoors and our Perth & Kinross team 🌎

Liz and Phil recently swapped their usual work gear for something a little more practical and headed to Recalibrate Outdoors, where they helped clear part of the site to create additional space for educational group visits for young people.

Over a well-earned break around the campfire, they chatted about the potential to work together as they all share the same passion for helping young people develop through outdoor experiences.

Liz has previously supported Lisa in delivering employability skills to a small group of college students in an outdoor education setting, and it's a great example of how practical experiences can help young people recognise and develop skills that are valuable in the workplace.

Lisa is keen to expand this work across Perth & Kinross, and discussions are now underway to explore how DYW Tay Cities and Recalibrate Outdoors can work together to create meaningful, engaging opportunities for young people.

As Recalibrate Outdoors puts it: "The best classroom doesn't have four walls." 🌱

We're excited to see where this partnership could take us!

Our team were invited along to DOOF Studios for a fantastic afternoon meeting with Robbie of Turn the Tables and Lesley. 🎶

We had a tour of the studio and facilities, found out more about the work happening there and chatted about how we could work together to create opportunities for young people in the future.

It was great to explore the possibilities and see where we could possibly collaborate.

Watch this space... 👀🎶

Our team were delighted to be invited along to the Baldovie Summer Open Day by Sarah Cartmill at MVV Environment ! ☀️

It was a great afternoon exploring the facility, meeting the team and finding out more about the engineering behind turning waste into energy. ⚙️♻️

There was plenty to get involved with, from guided tours and interactive stalls to food and drinks.

A big thank you to Sarah and the MVV team for inviting us along and giving us the opportunity to see more of the work happening at Baldovie. 👏

Heritage that works for everyone.

The public consultation for our Strategic Plan 2026-31 is now live.

Heritage is not just about the past—it is a powerful force for shaping the future.

Across Perth and Kinross, our historic environment defines who we are, connects communities, supports the economy, and offers solutions to some of today’s biggest challenges—from climate change to inclusive growth.

This strategy sets out how Perth and Kinross Heritage Trust, as an independent Trust, will harness that potential. It is ambitious, collaborative and forward-looking—focused on unlocking the full value of heritage for people, place and future generations.

To do this, we need your input. Your voice and opinions matter, and we’re inviting you to guide the direction of our Strategic Plan. Your feedback will help inform our work for the next five years.

Heritage should work for us all. That’s why it’s important for you to have your say.

The survey takes no more than 10 minutes to complete, and can be accessed through the link below. The survey will close on 14 September 2026. If you have any further questions please contact us at [email protected].
