One of our firefighters, FF Anna Figurska, recently travelled to Taiwan as a member of the UK International Search and Rescue (UK ISAR) team to take part in a joint training exercise alongside teams from Taiwan, Fiji and the Philippines 🇬🇧🇹🇼🇫🇯🇵🇭

The exercise simulated a magnitude 7.3 earthquake in the coastal town of Taitung, with scenarios involving rescuing casualties trapped in collapsed buildings and recovering people from submerged vehicles following a tsunami. 🌊🚨

Well done Anna 👏🏽🚒

How would you feel if a poorly parked vehicle delayed firefighters reaching an incident involving your family or property? It's not something anyone wants to imagine happening to them.

But it could happen, and this is why we all need to consider how much space we’re leaving every time we park up.

A 10ft gap is needed to allow a fire engine to pass by, so please make it part of your parking routine to check that there's enough space. If there’s not enough room to let emergency services through, please move your vehicle - someone’s life could one day depend on it.

Don’t charge devices on beds or under pillows. 🔋🔥

Devices can overheat and cause a fire.

Make sure everyone in your home knows the risks!

Always charge laptops, phones and tablets on hard, flat surfaces like desks or tables.

Avoid charging on beds, under pillows or leaving devices plugged in overnight or unattended.
