Well now the dust has settled (a little), all I can say is what a fantastic 2 day conference with 50+ social housing key decision makers and role players in attendance on both days.

This remarkable event with a fantastic array of guest speakers was arranged by the incredible Vicki Cutler CFIOSH and her Housing H&S Compliance UK Ltd & HHSC Learning team in the grand historical venue The Merchants House Of Glasgow.

I have seen Vicki Cutler CFIOSH develop the "Safety Scotland Network" programme from an acorn of an idea to what is now the central health and safety hub of knowledge and guidance for all social landlords throughout Scotland.

I am personally very proud to provide fire safety support for the Housing H&S Compliance UK Ltd & HHSC Learning team and be asked to speak at this event whilst meeting a lot of inspirational people in attendance, even if some needed subtitles for my Ayrshire accent!!

Congratulations to everyone who attended and for the superb participation. 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿

On Wednesday 15th of November I certainly got my steps in during a site inspection at the new £74 million JP Morgan development in Argyle Street, Glasgow.

Scheduled to be complete during Q1 of 2024, this stunning 13 storey building with x2 roof levels and a basement will certainly be a great addition to the city centre 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿

Leading by example the training course was also attended by Dave Pyatt the General Manager of New Edmiston House.

New Edmiston House which officially opened February 2023 is a state of the art event facility that not only provides an amazing event space but also contains the Rangers Football Club museum, shop store and catering facilities.

A great day supporting Housing H&S Compliance UK Ltd at Elderpark Housing Association with the wonderful Vicki Cutler CFIOSH delivering their IFSM accredited Fire Safety Awareness & Fire Warden Training.

This training day was bespoke to Elderpark Housing Association's head office which also involved a "walk & learn" element based around the in-house testing and inspection of the building's fire safety provisions, identifying hazards in their workplace and the safe selection and practical use of portable fire extinguishers.

I would encourage all organisations to contact Vicki Cutler CFIOSH should they require any bespoke fire safety, asbestos, legionella and general health and safety training requirements.

A busy start to 2023 for Caledonian Fire Safety Solutions working on some of Scotland's premiere buildings.

The Halo Enterprise and Innovation Centre - A fire risk assessment was conducted on this remarkable building which is part of the £63m brownfield urban regeneration project by HALO Urban Regeneration Company of the Hill Street site (formerly occupied by Johnnie Walker Scotch Whiskey). The 50,000 square foot, four storey HEIC is an industry-leading, digital, data and cyber training and learning facility, which opened its doors in early 2022.

Glasgow Rangers New Edmiston House - A pre-occupation fire risk assessment was conducted on this fantastic new development which is a state-of-the-art facility that will host a long-awaited club museum, a new two-storey Rangers Store and a fantastic events space and retail facilities.

Well, October has been another busy month for Caledonian Fire Safety Solutions involved in a number of varying projects to support to both new and existing clients and our business associates, with some examples of the services we provided during October as listed below.

1- We delivered our Fire Warden training supporting the hard working and dedicated Mark Polea and the health and safety team at Robertson's Fine Foods staff based in Irvine.

2- We supported the fantastic team @ Housing H&S Compliance UK Ltd with both Vicki Cutler CFIOSH and Tony Bolder who have developed a brilliant fire door training programme which is bespoke for Scottish organisations that will enable their own staff to competently conduct their own in-house fire door inspections, I highly recommend this for those organisations requiring this support which we will also be directly involved in moving forward.

3- We have provided fire risk assessment support for the pro-active management and health and safety team lead by Derek Baker of Maryhill Housing Association capturing all of their high-rise blocks.

4- We have provided fire risk assessment support for the skilled and experienced health and safety manager Martin Hammond at the incredible Ayrshire College, which is a fantastic educational facility spanning 20,000m2 which was constructed on the site of the former Johnny Walker bottling plant based in Kilmarnock.

5- We have provided fire risk assessment support for North Ayrshire Council's newly constructed x3 storey sheltered living facility named St Colm's Gardens which is based in Largs and offers an excellent range of support services for elderly persons.

If your business requires an assured standard of fire safety support, please feel free to get in touch with us @ [email protected]

Well it is hard to believe that August is now done and dusted, summer holidays are over and we are heading ever closer into winter!

August was a particularly busy month, in a good way it meant getting the steps in whilst delivering fire safety training workshop in Glasgow, fire safety awareness training in Renfrewshire, and working in large assembly buildings throughout Ayrshire such as - Garnock School Campus, Irvine Royal Academy, Auchenharvie Academy, Kilwinning Academy and finishing the month off back in Glasgow providing support at Hampden Park.

All the above buildings presenting various challenges being multi storey, multi occupied with a variety of construction dates ranging from the 1950s to as recently as 2016 with a mixture of both modern and and older building standard designs.

We love a challenge and constantly working towards improving fire safety not only in Scotland but throughout the U.K.

Reminiscing this week whilst working with the Scottish Football Association health and safety team at Hampden Park - the home of Scottish Football.

I first attended Hampden Park on 13th of October 1982 to watch the Scotland team beat East Germany 2-0, it was an incredible experience as a young boy to see your heroes in blue and white playing in this epic stadium.

A stadium on the present site was first opened on 31 October 1903,
Hampden Park was the biggest stadium in the world when it was opened, with a capacity in excess of 100,000. This was increased further between 1927 and 1937, reaching a peak of 150,000. The record attendance of 149,415, for a Scotland v England match in 1937, the stadium has been fully renovated since then, with the most recent work being completed in 1999.

A big part of why I love this job is when it provides the opportunity to see up close some of the finest and historical buildings in Scotland.
