2026 Open Weekend

Each year in August we hold a two day Open Weekend, which features access to areas of the museum normally closed to visitors as well as the opportunity to travel on a wide variety of vehicles.

A free bus service operates from Carnegie Drive, Dunfermline, just behind Kingsgate Shopping Centre to the museum on both days of the event, every 20 minutes from 10am.

There will also be a free bus service to provide transport around the site.

As well as visiting our display hall, why not browse through the collectors fair, or take a trip on our open top tour to view the Forth Bridges, as well as a Mystery Tour.

Many of the vehicles from the museum's collection will be on display, along with visiting vehicles from around the UK.

The SVBM Management Committee would like to express our enormous thanks to all Volunteers, owners of resident and visiting buses, and all of the visitors at yesterday's Low Floor event.

We are delighted with how these events have turned out so far from our vision of these special Guide Sunday days. This is down to hard work and lots of flexibility from Volunteers and vehicle owners to ensure they go off without a hitch.

In terms of numbers through the gate, this was a record breaking event for us and will help to cover site and vehicle maintenance, training opportunities for volunteers, and funding site improvement projects in the future.

A date for your diary is our Celebration of Transport on the 27th September. This will be our fourth installment of special, themed events and we hope this event will be as big a success as the others this year. This day will embrace all eras and types of buses, with the schedule running in a similar format to the previous three events. Other vintage and clasic vehicles will also be displayed on site during the day to look at and enjoy.

If you have a vintage vehicle and would like to bring it to display at our Celebration of Transport event, please contact [email protected]
