🎉. A massive BZ to Midshipman Bowyer who this weekend passed his final leadership exercise (FLEX) at Britannia Royal Naval College.

👮 FLEX is one of the final assessments undertaken my young officers as progress towards the end of their initial naval training.

🫵 Over two days the midshipmen take their turn as Officer in Command of a practical leadership task which itself forms part of a continuous scenario. This tests the officers' abilities to lead in a dynamic scenario with injections from the directing staff to challenge even the most prepared candidate.

📖 It's now time for Mid Bowyer to getting swotting as he studies for his final test, the Fleetboard, testing an officer knowledge of everything from naval history to damage control on a warship.

👏 Last week we had a chance to pay tribute and offer the unit's thanks to our Admin Officer, Lynne, as she retires after more than 20 years with the unit.

📃 Lynne has been a friendly face of support to Scotians over the years whenever pay, travel or a host of other issues have come up.

🎉 We know that Lynne is looking forward to spending more time with her family as she enjoys retirement after a 40+ year career in the civil service. But as "Once a Scotian always a Scotian" is at the heart of our unit ethos we look forward to seeing her again in the future.

🧑‍🚒 This weekend HMS Scotia focused on CBRNDC, working on the vital skills which they need to deploy during an emergency on board a ship.

🧯 Chemical, Biological, Radiological, Nuclear and Damage Control (CBRNDC) covers how Royal Navy ship's companies respond to emergency events onboard ship. Today lead by the permanent staff of the unit the training was turned into a CBRNDC simulation complete with situation board, damage control officer and damage control parties.

🔥 Use our damage repair instruction unit ship's company donned fire gear and worked on fire containment and suppression.

🤝 This builds on training earlier this week on the Royal Naval Reserve's NATO first approach and the role of NATO's Maritime Command based in the UK.

🏇 There's more to do in the Royal Naval Reserve than you may think!

👮Sub-Lieutenant Molloy recently played in the Captains Vs Subalterns Tournament for the Royal Navy Polo team. Taking on the British Army Adjutant General's Corps team, the RNPA B team won 7-2 with 2 goals from SLt Molloy.

⚓ This just shows the opportunities available to reservists and demonstrates how the Royal Naval Reserve truly is a club like no other!

🇺🇸 One of our ship's company had an incredible opportunity to experience the 4th July in New York last weekend whilst taking part in the International Naval Review. The Royal Naval Reserve really can take you on some incredible adventures!

🎉 Many of the little extra things we arrange for our ships company would be impossible if it weren't for the support of a variety of organisations.

👏 For last week's wholeship weekend we owe a massive thank you to the Royal Navy and Royal Marines Charity who supported us with funding towards some of the additional activities we took part in.

❤️ The work the RNRMC do is invaluable and they are there to support service personnel, veterans and their families through the good times and the tough times. Members of ship's company always look to give back to this fantastic organisation as shown by the efforts of a number at the Edinburgh Marathon Festival this year.

🎉 Thank you again for your support to us and the whole of the Royal Navy and Royal Marines.

👮 Alongside being Armed Forces week last week, it also saw the appointment of the new Commander of the Maritime Reserves, Commodore Suzi Nielsen OBE ADC. Congratulations on your appointment, and we look forward to welcoming you to HMS Scotia in the future. Hopefully to one of our Burns Nights which have become a noted moment in every COMMARRES's visit to Scotland!

After three years at the helm, Commodore Jo Adey ADC has relinquished command of the Maritime Reserves to Commodore Suzi Nielsen OBE ADC.

☀️ The final day of the weekend's exercise saw our reservists get out and enjoy the Scottish summer.

🥾 Taking advantage of the good weather's the ship's company put on their walking boots to walk from Crail to Elie. Stopping at Crail putting green to put their skills to the test, The Scottish Fisheries Museum to learn about Fife's nautical history, and finishing the day on beach at Elie Seaside Sauna...though it's rare that the air temperature in Scotland is close to a sauna!

🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿 The weekend truly demonstrated all the Royal Naval Reserve has to offer; from developing technical skills vital to reservists to physical challenges and time spent with friends.
