One week left to visit our Unearthed exhibition ⛰️

On Thursday we were delighted to welcome Dr Katie Strang, Curator of Rocks and Minerals at The Hunterian, for our 'Fife Rocks!' talk. Dr Strang took our audience on a journey more than 300 million years into the past, bringing Fife's geology to the surface.

This event was part of our family-friendly Unearthed exhibition, which runs until 6 September. There's still time to pop in and visit us - and entry is free!

Happy 143rd birthday to us! 🎉 On 29 August 1883, Dunfermline proudly opened the world's first Carnegie library. The library quickly proved hugely popular with the local community and, following several extensions over the years, continues to serve the people of Dunfermline and Fifers from further afield - while also attracting visitors from around the world, who are keen to explore Andrew Carnegie's birthplace and legacy.

And while books remain at the heart of what we do, there's plenty more for you to discover. Today, the library lends e-books and digital magazines, audiobooks, jigsaws and more, and is now home to a dedicated Children's Library, Reading Room, museum, two galleries, a gift shop and a café.

What's your favourite memory of the library? Let us know in the comments.

A beautiful image of the Carnegie Baths around the time of their opening in early 1905. During that first year open, 81,277 visitors used the new facilities, and the bathing 'pond' was reported to be one of the most attractive in Britain. At the opening ceremony Dr John Ross, Chairman of the Carnegie Dunfermline Trust, stated that the Baths were to be "not only a centre for amusement but one also for Scientific Instruction in all rules of health".
