🙌 Time To Live impact report 2025-2026 is now live.

Time to Live is a funding programme of the Short Breaks Fund delivering microgrants directly to unpaid carers, supporting the right breaks at the right time. From pursuing a hobby, enjoying a social activity or taking a short trip to simply having quiet time to rest, these breaks offer unpaid carers space that can be difficult to find on their own.

26,000 carers and their families were supported to take a short break. Just how was this achieved?

✈️Today's story is from Taylor, young adult carer providing support at home for both of their parents, who live with health conditions. They also help care for their stepbrother who has autism.

As Taylor prepared to transition into adult services, their Carer Support Worker encouraged them to think about taking a vital break from their caring role. Taylor shared a lifelong dream: learning to fly an aeroplane. While it felt like an ambitious goal, it was something they had always wanted to experience and potentially pursue as a future career.

Through a Time to Live microgrant, Taylor was able to access an introductory flying lesson with a qualified instructor.

"A dream come true for me. I had such a great time and even tried flying the aircraft with the pilot's help. It was all so interesting, especially the take-off and landing parts. Thanks to the Time to Live microgrant, I not only had a break from caring but was able to try something I had always wanted to do, and that was amazing."

Today's story is from Archie, a young carer who helps care for his twin brothers, who both have Down syndrome. Like many young carers, he does not see himself as an unpaid carer. He simply sees the support he gives his family as part of everyday life.

While attending a young carers' camp, Archie spoke about taking breaks and he shared his love of gaming, particularly Minecraft-style games. It became clear that having something of his own and time to enjoy his interests would make a real difference to his wellbeing. With support from a Time to Live grant, Archie received a refurbished Xbox and a selection of games.

Archie's mum said:
"Thank you so much for recognising that Archie needed this support and some time for himself. Hearing the boys laughing together and enjoying the games is a real tonic for us all. Without the Time to Live grant, we simply would not have been able to purchase this for him."
