STEP STEP is a rights-based community organisation offering advice, support and advocacy across Mid Ulster.

From our initial work in 1997, STEP has translated its aims and objectives into community action through community development principles. STEP exists as an organic organisation, growing and evolving in order to meet the changing needs of our developing society. Our organisational activities and projects range from small group development to large partnership projects and trans-national networks, but our core purpose and principles never change.

Day 5 of and today’s Simple Act is.. Move Together! πŸ•Ί πŸ’ƒ ⚽️ πŸ‘

Moving and playing together creates joy, builds trust and is a powerful way to welcome and connect new neighbours.

When we move together, we learn how to collaborate, find strength in unity and make space for everyone.

Ways to take part:

1) Come to the FSWC - Unity in Diversity Community Picnic at Mid Ulster District Council Hill of O’Neill on Saturday 20th June, 3-5pm! A great event celebrating all 9 Simple Acts for Refugee Week. Free and suitable for all the family!

2) Join the great outdoor international skittles tournament, also at Hill of The O Neill & Ranfurly House, Sat 20th June, 3pm.

3) Join a new class- dance, roller skating, football or anything that gets you moving with others!

It’s Day 4 of Week and today’s Simple Act is Share Food & Stories πŸ•

This Simple Act is all about the power of food to bring people together.

When we gather to cook, share recipes, or sit down to eat side by side, we are woven together in care and nourishment.

Boundaries are dissolved.
Language is transcended.
Communities are built.

Ways to act simply:

1) Get along to Summer in the Courtyard at Benburb Priory, 6pm-10pm, this Friday 19th June to celebrate local talent and diversity with beautiful food and music in the courtyard.

2) Bring the whole family to the FSWC - Unity in Diversity Big Community Picnic on Saturday 20th June at Mid Ulster District Council Hill of O'Neill, Dungannon from 3-5pm.

3) Cook, bake, gather, share and try new foods from a culture you are less familiar with.

'Share Food & Stories' is one of nine Simple Acts you can do for Refugee Week (15-21 June).

Walking in groups can be a wonderful way to make new friends, and walking side by side makes it easier to talk openly, listen with attention, and discover new perspectives.

2.) Explore Dungannon Park with Sanctuary Runners this Saturday for the weekly Parkrun, meet up at 9.15am for a 9.30am start, or check out other Mid Ulster Parkruns near you.

Taking place from 15–21 June, Refugee Week is the world’s largest arts and culture festival celebrating the contributions, creativity and resilience of refugees and people seeking sanctuary.

This year’s theme is Courage β€” recognising the everyday courage shown by people rebuilding their lives in new communities, while encouraging all of us to show courage through welcome, connection and compassion.

Throughout the week, STEP and the Council are inviting individuals, community groups, schools, businesses and organisations across Mid Ulster to take part in the Refugee Week 'Simple Acts' campaign β€” encouraging small everyday actions that help build understanding and belonging.
