BASC is joined by Chief Inspector Bruce Crawford and colleagues at the Royal Highland Show over the four days.

Police Scotland will be on hand to answer any queries you may have about fi****ms licensing.

We look forward to hosting them again at the Scottish Game Fair in a few weeks time.

📢 NatureScot is reviewing General Licences in Scotland

BASC will be responding in full to a consultation on the review of General Licences in Scotland.

The first phase of NatureScot's review concentrates on General Licences for 2027. Ahead of the consultation, they have been evaluating the existing General Licences, species assessments, and Habitat regulations assessments.

BASC is to meet with NatureScot to put forward our views and scientific evidence.

We will provide members with further guidance and information on responding, in due course, so please look out for Fast Track emails and social media.

This consultation will run from 16th June until 31st August 2026.

📢 Championing and protecting Scottish wildfowling under UNESCO

BASC Scotland has made submissions for the inclusion of Scottish wildfowling in the Scottish living heritage inventory.

The submissions are part of BASC’s ongoing efforts to recognise and celebrate the positive role that shooting plays in sustaining Scotland’s identity and heritage.

Shooting is at the heart of Scotland’s culture, identity and heritage. Those involved play a key role in shaping Scottish landscapes and caring for the nature found in them. These are living traditions, a way of life that respects the past without living in it, changing and evolving as Scotland changes and evolves.

A failure to recognise, celebrate and safeguard these traditions would be a denial of Scotland’s past, present and future.

📢Important update for BASC members in Scotland

The Scottish Government has confirmed the first steps towards implementing the Natural Environment (Scotland) Act 2026, following the legislation receiving Royal Assent earlier this year.

Passed by the Scottish Parliament on 12 March 2026, the Act introduces a range of measures affecting wildlife management and muirburn in Scotland. BASC worked throughout the Bill's development to secure important amendments to make it more workable. While we do not believe licensing is necessary, we will continue to monitor the introduction of the new system.

The Scottish Government's Nature Division Legislation team has thanked stakeholders, including BASC, for their engagement and support during the bill's development and passage through parliament.

BASC will continue to work closely with the Scottish Government as the process moves forward, ensuring members' interests are represented and that any changes affecting shooting, wildlife management and land management are clearly communicated.

We will keep members updated as further information becomes available, including any practical implications and, where relevant, guidance on new licensing requirements.

✏️Mental health is everyone’s business – join the pledge

We’re proud to be joining many rural organisations to help create communities where everyone can talk openly about mental health and where people are supported to seek help early.

Through this UK-first collaboration, the new, pioneering Scottish Fi****ms Mental Health Awareness and Support Partnership brings organisations together with a shared aim: to raise awareness, encourage early support and help prevent su***de. Because real change happens when we stand together.

If you’re visiting the Royal Highland Show from 18–21 June, you can sign the pledge at the RSABI stand (opposite the Members Pavilion) to show your support. It’s also a chance to meet and chat with some of the many partners involved. This will be the first of many rural shows where the pledge will be available, helping to grow this collective effort across Scotland’s rural communities.

📢BASC meets with Reform UK Shadow Cabinet Secretary for Rural Affairs

BASC Scotland was pleased to visit the Scottish Parliament last week to meet with new MSP Jamie Langan, the Rural Spokesperson for Reform UK, to discuss key issues affecting Scotland's shooting and rural communities.

The meeting provided an important opportunity to highlight the contribution that shooting makes to conservation, biodiversity, the rural economy, and local livelihoods, while also discussing the challenges facing those who live and work in the countryside.

Constructive engagement with elected representatives is essential to ensuring the voices of responsible shooters, gamekeepers, land managers and rural businesses are heard at the heart of Scottish policymaking.

💥Young Shots Activity Day - Sunday 26th July 2026

BASC Scotland is excited to announce another Young Shots Activity Day. All abilities and experience levels are welcome, with BASC Shotgun Coaches on hand to provide guidance. Starting at 9.30am, the day includes a 40 bird sporting layout, session on air rifles and Raptor World will be provide a falconry demonstration and bird of prey handling session.

£30 per person, includes cartridges and gun hire. Anyone wishing to attend must be a BASC member.
