Duns Community Fire Station

Duns Community Fire Station Duns Community Fire station is located on Newtown St, Duns and is manned by a crew of On Call Firefighters. Part of the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service

On Call Firefighters are men and women who operate responding to emergency calls via a pager from their home or place of work at any time of the day or night depending on their availability. They provide vital fire and rescue cover often in remote and rural communities, protecting local people and businesses in the area they live in from fire and other emergencies. Not only will those who become O

n Call Firefighters be performing a highly valuable role in their local area, but they will be taught vital life-saving skills that will be of real benefit to them as individuals. It’s a challenging role, but within a team spirited environment where all have a pride in working for the SFRS. Many of our On Call Firefighters believe that the biggest benefit they get is the job itself, but you can also expect excellent training opportunities. Our trainee On Call Duty System Firefighters attend a two-week residential training course at a Scottish Fire and Rescue Service College site with a further week being required normally within the first few months of employment. You’ll learn basic core competence skills including operation of fire service ladders, fire appliances and pumps including various other pieces of fire and rescue service equipment. From the time you join until the moment you leave, education and training forms a highly significant part of every working day.

Extreme wildfire warning for the whole of Scotland 🔥

There is an extreme risk of wildfire across the whole of Scotland from today until Saturday, 2 May.

We know many people across Scotland will be wanting to enjoy the good weather across the bank holiday weekend. We ask that everyone does so responsibly.

Wildfires have the potential to destroy property, landscapes and wildlife. All it takes is one spark to spread, causing a large amount of damage.

Remember, there’s no such thing as a 'harmless' fire.

Share this wildfire warning to help spread the word.

Duns Community Fire Station has been relatively busy this year so far. Unfortunately we have seen a rise in wilful fire raising and unattended bonfires in the local area. The most recent being 530am this morning, a concerned member of the public called 999 to alert of a small fire in Duns public park.
No significant damage was done to the playpark after a thorough check. However had this fire taken ahold Duns would have been without its playpark.

Parents could we ask to discuss the dangers of fire raising with your children and its wider impact. Our Community Action Team will be actively addressing this in local schools.

If anyone sees anything suspicious please do not hesitate to report it as we are aware the playpark has been subjected to abuse and vandalism. Any fire left unattended poses a great risk of spreading.

Monday night's are training nights for the crew. We train with potential scenarios so we can react in the best and most practical way to rescue people from tricky incidents. Tonight's training was a fire on the 1st floor to be accessed by ladder in breathing apparatus ascend and locate the fire then to carry out firefighting to locate a missing person in the basement. The crews carried this out efficiently and extracted the unconscious dummy occupant by utilising equipment we carry down to ground level. We train to ensure we are ready to react.
We had two potential recruits in the making who have carried out leg locks and other skills In preparation of their tests to become community Firefighters tonight.
