Rutherford Head Race Report:
The W8+ were up bright and early for div1, adrenaline keeping us warm as we rigged res, we were in very high spirits. In b5 as the 136th crew we were one of the last boats to be let loose on the Tyne that morning, following a chilly and slightly soggy marshalling. We started off strong keeping a lead on St Andrews until 1k where we were unfortunately overtaken. After this, we powered through, overtaking majority of the quads in front of us. Just as the exhaustion was setting in, calls from the bank from the men’s squad gave us a motivation to smash the last 800 metres, and finish with an impressive 20:40.8. Overall great start to head season, massive things coming from these ladies.

The Men’s 1st VIII put in a great effort placing 22nd in the 2nd division with a time of 16:35.5.

The Men’s 2v went out with high aspirations aiming to beat as many 1st eights as possible. Sadly we couldn’t hold off Leeds 1v for very long but after they overtook us we settled into a strong rhythm staying strong through the second half of the race. Keeping our speed up meant we gained on Castle and Mildert in front of us overtaking Castle and finishing half a length off Mildert’s stern. Ultimately a great result, finishing not too much slower than many other colleges giving us a great start to our season.

NEIRC Race Report: On 15th November, SCSBC sent three men’s teams to race in the North East Indoor Rowing Championship. All three teams took part in the 2000m relay event.
Crew A absolutely smashed it, coming out on top of Senate and the other colleges, only losing out to the top DU crews.
Crew B put in a good effort, placing 7th overall.
Finally, as a first outing for most of the boys, the Nov Crew excelled, coming in 5th overall, showing great promise for the future of Cuth’s rowing.
Well done to everyone involved - it was brilliant to see so many Cuth’s crews taking part in the event, displaying great potential for the rest of Head Season.
