AREC To identify and offer membership to all committees in the UK that provide ethical review of research involving human participant’s in or outside of the NHS.

The Association of Research Ethics Committees (AREC), is an independent, self-governing body of Research Ethics Committees, local and multi-centre, including their members and administrators. AREC aims to assess the educational and training needs of those involved in ethical review and of those engaged in the conduct or supervision of research involving human participant’ss and plan, organise and

provide or coordinate training by various means to meet those needs. To keep contact with its members and associate members in order to be continuously aware of their other needs that stand in the way of excellence in ethical review and to find ways to meet them including the establishment of national and regional networks to discuss topics of mutual interest and encourage co-operation between its members. To provide a collective and authoritative voice on policy matters founded upon the consensus views of its members and associate members and by espousing and promoting these views, be a leader of opinion on ethical standards and their application in research involving human subjects.
