Officers are investigating an incident of criminal damage to a Go North East bus that occurred on Saturday, August 8, at approximately 6.45pm on the B6532 near the junction with Potterhouse Lane, between Sacriston and Framwellgate Moor.

A group of youths threw an unknown object at a moving double-decker bus, causing the upper windscreen to shatter, much to the alarm of the passengers and driver.

Officers responded to a report of a collision on the B6302 Ushaw Moor towards Esh Winning yesterday (Wednesday, August 5) at around 9.25pm.

The incident involved a silver Nissan Juke and a pedestrian.

The pedestrian suffered serious injuries and was taken to University Hospital North Durham for treatment.

A man in his 20s has been arrested on suspicion of causing serious injury by dangerous driving, and remains in custody.

Anybody with any information relating to the incident, or with footage of the vehicle in the moments before or after the collision, is asked to contact the Serious Collision Investigation Unit via [email protected] quoting incident number 508 of August 5.

Today we say a heartfelt “see you later” to Annabelle as she leaves her role as a PCSO to begin an exciting new chapter as a Police Constable.

Annabelle has been an invaluable part of the Durham City team, and we are incredibly grateful for the dedication, compassion and professionalism she has shown throughout her time with us. She has taken every opportunity to learn and grow, making a lasting impact on colleagues and the community alike.

Annabelle would also like to personally say a massive thank to everyone for the opportunities and experiences she has had across the city, including working alongside partners through Shopwatch and PACT meetings with the Markets, which have played a huge part in her development.
While she will miss Durham with all her heart, this is not goodbye, just the start of a new journey✨

We know she will continue to thrive and make a difference in her new role.

Here's just a snapshot of what your Framwellgate Neighbourhood Team has been up to recently:

🏍Electric motorbike seized
An electric bike was seized in Framwellgate Moor, with the rider reported for road traffic offences.

🔥Tackling anti-social behaviour in Meadowfield
Following a call from a concerned member of the public who reported a group of youths carrying scrap wood into fields in Meadowfield, officers already patrolling the area quickly attended and found that a fire had been started.
As a result:
• One youth was arrested
• One youth was collected by their parents
• A number of others were identified
• An electric scooter was seized
We are continuing to work closely with County Durham and Darlington Fire and Rescue Service and other partner agencies to address this type of anti-social behaviour and keep our communities safe.

🚁Patrols at Carrs Nature Reserve
Officers have carried out patrols within the Carrs Nature Reserve, both on foot and from the air using our councillor-funded drone, looking for signs of anti-social behaviour and any ongoing incidents.

Alongside our day-to-day neighbourhood duties, we have also been assisting response colleagues during the increased demands of the summer period.

Addressing some issues in the city last week.

We currently have two Public Space Protection Orders (PSPOs) in place in Durham City to help us tackle anti-social behaviour and related criminal offences, such as street drinking, public urination and the use of noxious substances in public.

We continue to take proactive action using these powers. A 50-year-old woman has been charged with breaching a PSPO and committing criminal damage in the city centre.

A 43-year-old man has also been charged with theft and breaching a harassment order. He has been given strict conditions preventing him from entering the PSPO area.

🚳Officers have also addressed concerns raised by members of the public regarding cyclists riding down Silver Street and across Framwellgate Bridge. No vehicles, including pedal cycles, are permitted in this area, except during specified times for loading, as indicated by the signage.

Officers have stopped several cyclists, asking them to dismount and reminding them of the Highway Code. Some were unaware of the restrictions and believed they were permitted to cycle through the area.

This location is extremely busy and experiences high levels of footfall. We will continue our patrols in this area, and we hope this post helps to educate those who use it.

Our officers deployed at Durham Miners’ Gala on Saturday – did you spot them? 👀

These deployments consist of uniformed and plain-clothes officers who are specially trained to spot the signs that someone may be gathering information to help them plan or prepare to commit a crime.

💬 During these deployments, which can happen anywhere and at any time, officers speak to members of the public, local businesses, and other security staff to encourage vigilance and the reporting of suspicious activity.

If you see these patrols, there’s nothing to worry about – they’re helping to keep you safe.

Thank you to everyone who stopped and spoke to our officers about being vigilant and reporting anything that you see or hear that doesn’t feel right.
