Veterans’ Benefit Lottery

This is by far and away the best way to support The PTSD Project UK.

We normally raise funds through Face2Face sales of products and raffle tickets at festivals, in town centres and markets and such like. Of course with the lockdown measures that came into place, we were really up against it. We had little choice but to try to develop our online presence and we think we have done OK in the short time we have had to learn.

We began by selling stock we had ready for the markets, but doing it via social media, then we added a shop to our website. We have done it all by ourselves with some advice along the way.

We made a decision when we started that we would not apply for Government funding or indeed any type of funding at all, preferring instead to raise the money ourselves, meaning that we would be independent and answerable only to the beneficiaries we love to support so much.

Despite the lockdown, we stuck to our guns and didn’t apply for any of the available resources that were made available. We have made it this far and it appears we have turned the corner, and the more we can grow the VBL, the better chance we have of being able to increase the amount and quality of services we offer. We decided at the start that we would never charge for our services, whatever happened. Again, for us this is non negotiable. It won’t change.

Lottery revenue will provide us with a steady income and free up time for us to focus on those that really matter. We also want to be different from the majority of the charity sector, in that we will never have massive advertising budgets or pay executives big money to grow our organisation. We want to turn donations into services quickly, as we believe that help and support is required NOW.

Since we started selling the wristbands and hoodies online at the start of lockdown, we have managed to pay tom establish a Crisis Line, which will launch very soon. We are currently starting to train volunteers who are ready to answer the calls we receive when the service is launched.

As the lottery grows in size, we do not currently intend to raise the prizes, as we hope that people play to support us rather than the chance of winning big. So the increased revenue will be available to spend on new services for veterans of the Armed Forces who have suffered or are suffering from the effects and related problems of battlefield traumas.

We will actively involve the veterans and our supporters in the process of increasing facilities and services as we would not do what we do without them.
