As we enter spooky season it seems mysterious and magical happenings are taking place even in our plant centre 👀✨

Our visitor centre staff have been conjuring up some spooky spells (well official names for these perennials) to sprinkle a little magnificent magic in our already enchanting collection of plants 🪄🧙✨

🍺 The next chapter of our Markshall Hops story! 🌿

This week, our team has been helping with the brewing of the very first ale at mightyoakbrewingcompany in Maldon! 🍻

After all the hard work that went into picking the hops, it’s fantastic to see things coming together, and it looks like that effort is really starting to pay off!

There’s not long to wait now until our first ale is ready, and we can’t wait to share the finished product with you.

🌿 World Mental Health Day 🌿
Sometimes, taking care of our mental health can be as simple as stepping outside, slowing down, and reconnecting with nature.

A walk among the trees, a quiet moment beside the water, the sound of leaves rustling in the breeze, or simply taking a few minutes to pause and be present — these small moments can give our minds space to breathe.

The Arboretum offers so many little pockets of calm. A chance to switch off from the noise, take a mindful moment, and appreciate the beauty around us.

Today, take a little time for yourself. Step outside, take a deep breath, and notice the world around you.

🌳 Sharing knowledge, growing together. 🌿

Last week, some of our Markshall team had the pleasure of visiting arleyestate in Worcestershire, spending time with fellow arboretum professionals and sharing ideas, experience and knowledge.

By working collaboratively and supporting each other, we can continue to develop best practice and strengthen what we do for the place we love.

It’s all part of our commitment to protecting and nurturing arboriculture for generations to come. 🌳

We’ve had a beautiful new collection of crystals and gemstones arrive at the Markshall Gift Shop this week! 💎✨

☕🍂 Did you know today is International Coffee Day?

What better way to celebrate than with a takeaway of our favourite hot drink from the delightful Mrs Salisbury's Famous Tea Rooms, ready to enjoy on an autumnal wander around the arboretum.

Whether it’s a cosy latte by the lakes or a perfectly poured flat white amongst the firs, there’s a coffee and a beautiful spot to enjoy waiting for you out there today. 🌳☕️😊

We’re delighted to welcome back existing exhibitor meryemsiemmond with a brand-new piece, installed in the Arboretum today 😊

This beautiful solid stone sculpture has been carefully carved from stone and makes a wonderful addition to the collection, sitting perfectly amongst the changing colours of autumn.🍂💛🍁

It was certainly a team effort to get this incredibly heavy piece into place, with the Arboretum team lending a hand (and some machinery!) to carefully secure it in its new home beside the Upper Lake.

Our sculpture exhibition continues to grow and evolve throughout the year, with new pieces arriving all year round so there’s always another reason to visit and discover what’s new. 🧡🍁😊
