** GAME FOR A FREE CRAFT SESSION? **

'Make Your Own Board Game' is happening tomorrow, Wednesday 2nd September, at the community library.

It's a FREE craft session for children from 6 to 13 years. Make a fun game. You'll be hosted and guided by Chris Geeson Creative Clubs and all materials will be provided.

What’s it to be? A Dungeons and Dragons-style adventure? A battle through The Hunger Games? A gnarly, growly Bear Hunt with cunning hidden traps? Or something entirely from your own imagination? You get to choose!

The session runs from 10am until Noon. You can book your place(s) by popping into the library this afternoon, ringing us on 01609 534584 or dropping an email to: [email protected]. We’ll accept walk-ups on the day if there’s room.

Children should be accompanied by a parent or guardian.

** FEEL THE FORCE! **

With just days to go until the end of this year’s Summer Reading Challenge, it’s time to finish reading your six books and get yourself down to the library to collect your rewards and your finisher’s medal.

‘Read to the Beat’ closes on Saturday 12th September. Is the reading Force strong in you? Busy you must get!

** MAKE A GAME OF IT! **

With just a week to go, there are still a few places left on our free craft session for children from 6 to 13 years - MAKE YOUR OWN BOARD GAME.

Here’s a fantastic chance to design and make a fun game based on your favourite story or comic book, guided by the legend that is Chris Geeson Creative Clubs and with all materials provided.

So what’s it to be? A Dungeons and Dragons-style monster fest? A battle through The Hunger Games? A gnarly, growly Bear Hunt? Or maybe a sticky sweet adventure in Wonka’s Chocolate Factory? You choose!

The session is in the library on Wednesday 2nd September from 10am until Noon. There are limited places so it’s best to book, though we’ll accept walk-ups on the day if there’s room. Children should be accompanied by a parent or guardian.

** GET CREATIVE! - ART SESSIONS AT THE LIBRARY **

Our very popular free series of GET CREATIVE! FUN & FRIENDLY ART SESSIONS returns to the community library this autumn.

The first session is Making 3D Flowers on Wednesday 16th September from 10am to 12 Noon. Hosted and guided by the very talented local artist Jacquie Sheffield, it’s a great chance to try your hand at something new, whatever your artistic ability.

The session is free and all materials are provided. There are limited places so you’ll need to book. Call into the library, ring us on 01609 534584 or email: [email protected].

Making Colourful Art with Acrylic Pens – Wednesday 28th October. 2pm to 4pm.

If you’re after something in Easingwold to enjoy with your young ‘uns for an hour this is just the ticket. The Winnie-the Pooh displays in windows around the town are a real knitting tour de force and great fun too!

** ONLY SIX BOOKS STAND BETWEEN YOU AND A MEDAL! **

There's time still to join the 250-plus Easingwold youngsters who have signed-up for 'Read to the Beat', this year's Summer Reading Challenge.

If you're aged between 4 and 11 and would like to join in the fun, you too can sign-up at the library. You'll get a special collector’s folder and then special goodies along the way (while stocks last). You'll go back to school in September as a reading champion!

Not a library member? We can fix that! Joining is quick, easy and free. Just call in – we’d really love to see you!

** FREE KIDS CRAFT SESSION TOMORROW **

The next event in our FREE summer fun and games for kids is happening at the library tomorrow, Friday 14th August. Drop-in anytime between 10am and Noon.

CD ANIMALS will get you using old discs and other scrap materials to create something that grabs your imagination. A fun animal face, a cute crafty creature or a hideous monster? You choose!

It's for ages 4 to 11 years accompanied by a parent or guardian and is a drop-in so there’s no need to book. Allow 30 minutes.

There are just a few places left for GIANT BOOKS on Wednesday 26th August but you’ll need to get your skates on with booking.

And it's not too late to sign-up for 'READ TO THE BEAT', this year's Summer Reading Challenge for 4 to 11 year-olds. Drop into the library to get your special collectors folder and loads of cool free stuff as you read your six challenge books.

** EASINGWOLD'S YOUNG READERS ROCK!

‘Read to the Beat’, this year's Summer Reading Challenge, has grabbed the imaginations of Easingwold’s young readers so much that just a couple of weeks into the school summer holiday nearly 200 youngsters have risen to the challenge. And we’re amazed and very proud to report that five ultra-keen readers have already completed it and received their medals!

If you’d like to join in the fun, sign-up at the library. You'll get a special collector’s folder and then special goodies along the way (while stocks last). Read six books of your choice and visit the library three times during the summer break. At the end you’ll get an eco-friendly ‘Read to the Beat’ medal and a certificate to mark your achievement.

** THE LIONS ROAR AGAIN! **

Easingwold Community Library was recently awarded a community grant by Easingwold District Lions to purchase various items.

Pictured are Home Library volunteer Viv, Lion Tina and Wendy from North Yorkshire Council with the large-piece and dementia-friendly jigsaws purchased with some of the funds. We've also been able to buy a small table and chairs for the children’s library area and some folding chairs for library events.

Many thanks to Easingwold District Lions for their wonderful ongoing support for the community library.
