While looking into the overgrown grass around the play area and playing fields on Mundles Lane in East Boldon, I also noticed a number of large potholes at the entrance to the lane.

Some were filled with water, making them difficult to see, and they could easily cause damage to vehicles, bicycles or pose a hazard to people walking.

I raised this with South Tyneside Council at the same time as the grass cutting issue.

I’ve already received an acknowledgement from the council confirming that the matter has been passed to the Highways Inspector for assessment.

I’ll share any further updates once I hear more.

A concern was raised about overgrown grass and some litter around the play area and playing fields on Mundles Lane in East Boldon. Thanks to Ethan for flagging this and passing it on.

I went along this evening to take a look.

The litter turned out to be minimal and I cleared away what I could see, but the grass is very overgrown in a number of areas, including around the play area itself.

I appreciate that some areas may be left longer to support wildlife, which is important, but around a children’s play area and recreational space most people would reasonably expect the grass to be kept under control.

I’ve contacted South Tyneside Council to ask when this is scheduled to be cut and will share any update once I receive a response.

Firstly, congratulations to the three elected Green candidates in Cleadon Village & East Boldon, and well done to everyone who stood in the election across all parties and independents.

I also want to say a 𝗴𝗲𝗻𝘂𝗶𝗻𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗮𝗻𝗸 𝘆𝗼𝘂 to every single person who voted for me.

To 𝗿𝗲𝗰𝗲𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝟱𝟮𝟴 𝘃𝗼𝘁𝗲𝘀 𝗮𝘀 𝗮𝗻 𝗶𝗻𝗱𝗲𝗽𝗲𝗻𝗱𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗰𝗮𝗻𝗱𝗶𝗱𝗮𝘁𝗲 standing for the first time honestly means a lot. Every conversation, message, comment, share and vote was appreciated more than you probably realise.

This campaign was never just about politics for me. It was about listening to people, meeting residents across the ward, understanding local concerns and trying to bring a more community-focused and constructive approach to local conversations.

One thing I’ve definitely taken away from the last few months is that a huge number of people really care about this area and want the best for it.

Although I wasn’t elected this time, this won’t be the last people hear from me locally 🙂

Whatever happens tonight, I just want to thank everyone who has supported me, spoken to me or taken the time to chat over the last few weeks.

Running as an independent has been a big learning experience, but one thing it’s confirmed to me is that local people really do care about this area and its future.

Whatever happens today, I just want to say thank you to everyone who has spoken to me, messaged me, stopped for a chat or supported the campaign over the last few weeks.

It’s been genuinely interesting hearing people’s views across Cleadon Village and East Boldon.

One thing I’ve noticed is that, 𝘄𝗵𝗮𝘁𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗿 𝗽𝗲𝗼𝗽𝗹𝗲’𝘀 𝗽𝗼𝗹𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗰𝘀, most local concerns are actually very similar.

People want cleaner streets, safer communities, better roads and pavements, sensible parking solutions, support for local businesses, protection for green spaces and the character of our villages, and to feel listened to.

The support and engagement on posts over the last few days has genuinely shown that people around here still care about community spirit and taking pride in where they live. That’s a really positive thing to see.

My name is Scott Oliver and I’m standing as an 𝗜𝗻𝗱𝗲𝗽𝗲𝗻𝗱𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗰𝗮𝗻𝗱𝗶𝗱𝗮𝘁𝗲.

Not for party politics.
For 𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗺𝗼𝗻 𝘀𝗲𝗻𝘀𝗲, 𝗹𝗼𝗰𝗮𝗹 𝗮𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻, 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗽𝗲𝗼𝗽𝗹𝗲 𝗳𝗶𝗿𝘀𝘁.

Like many people, I’m tired of politics becoming more about arguments, party lines and point scoring than solving real problems.

Most people are not asking for political theatre. They care about things that affect everyday life:

✔ Parking
✔ Roads and potholes
✔ Clean streets
✔ Anti social behaviour
✔ Protecting the character of our villages
✔ Supporting local shops and businesses
✔ Being listened to properly

That’s not a full list, but they’re the kinds of everyday issues that matter to people.

In my professional life, I work on improving services, solving problems, bringing people together and turning ideas into action. To me, those are exactly the kinds of 𝘀𝗸𝗶𝗹𝗹𝘀 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗲𝘅𝗽𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗺𝗮𝘁𝘁𝗲𝗿 𝗹𝗼𝗰𝗮𝗹𝗹𝘆 𝘁𝗼𝗼.

If elected, I’ll be 𝗮𝗽𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗮𝗰𝗵𝗮𝗯𝗹𝗲 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗮𝗰𝗰𝗼𝘂𝗻𝘁𝗮𝗯𝗹𝗲.

I’ll listen.
