𝗣𝗼𝗹𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗰𝘀 𝗰𝗮𝗻 𝘀𝗼𝗺𝗲𝘁𝗶𝗺𝗲𝘀 𝗴𝗲𝘁 𝗾𝘂𝗶𝘁𝗲 𝗻𝗼𝗶𝘀𝘆. 𝗠𝘆 𝗳𝗼𝗰𝘂𝘀 𝗵𝗮𝘀 𝘀𝗶𝗺𝗽𝗹𝘆 𝗯𝗲𝗲𝗻 𝗼𝗻 𝗵𝗲𝗹𝗽𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗴𝗲𝘁 𝗹𝗼𝗰𝗮𝗹 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗯𝗹𝗲𝗺𝘀 𝘀𝗼𝗿𝘁𝗲𝗱 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗸𝗲𝗲𝗽𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗽𝗲𝗼𝗽𝗹𝗲 𝘂𝗽𝗱𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗱 𝗼𝗻 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗴𝗿𝗲𝘀𝘀.

Over the last few weeks, I’ve reported a number of issues across Cleadon Village and East Boldon.

Some have taken a little while because of the backlog council teams are working through, but it’s good to see that a number of jobs have now been completed.

These include:

✅ Overgrown bushes and vegetation cut back where pavements had become obstructed.

✅ A badly overgrown route cleared where weeds, brambles and branches had made it difficult and unpleasant to walk through.

✅ Vegetation removed where pedestrians, including children travelling to and from school, were being pushed onto the road.

✅ Loose and uneven paving slabs repaired and secured with concrete.

✅ Graffiti removed from road signs and public seating.

✅ Bent road signs put back into position.

✅ Overgrown bushes cleared from around road signs so they can be seen properly again.

I’ve included some before and after photos so people can see the difference. (Not necessarily in the right order 🤯).

𝗧𝗵𝗮𝗻𝗸 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝘁𝗼 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗰𝗼𝘂𝗻𝗰𝗶𝗹 𝘁𝗲𝗮𝗺𝘀 𝘄𝗵𝗼 𝗵𝗮𝘃𝗲 𝗶𝗻𝘀𝗽𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗲𝗱 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗶𝘀𝘀𝘂𝗲𝘀 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗰𝗮𝗿𝗿𝗶𝗲𝗱 𝗼𝘂𝘁 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗸. Credit where it’s due.

There are still several other reports awaiting action, and I’ll continue following those up and sharing updates when I receive them.

I can’t promise that every issue will be resolved immediately, but I’m always happy to take a look, find out who is responsible and help get it reported through the right channels.

📍 𝗨𝗽𝗱𝗮𝘁𝗲 - 𝗦𝗵𝗶𝗲𝗹𝗱𝘀 𝗥𝗼𝗮𝗱, 𝗖𝗹𝗲𝗮𝗱𝗼𝗻

Last Friday, whilst walking through Cleadon, I noticed that the vegetation along part of the pavement on Shields Road had become heavily overgrown and was encroaching right out onto the footpath.

I reported it to the council that evening and I'm pleased to see that the bushes have now been cut back, making the pavement much easier to use. And cars exiting Cleadon Meadows should have a better view of the road now.

Thank you to the council team for carrying out the work so quickly.

It's a good reminder that sometimes small issues can be easy to miss, but once they're reported they can often be resolved quickly.

I'm continuing to follow up on a number of other issues that I've spotted and those that have been raised with me around Cleadon Village and East Boldon, I'll share updates as I receive them.

𝗔 𝗾𝘂𝗶𝗰𝗸 𝘂𝗽𝗱𝗮𝘁𝗲 𝗼𝗻 𝗮 𝗳𝗲𝘄 𝗹𝗼𝗰𝗮𝗹 𝗶𝘀𝘀𝘂𝗲𝘀 𝗜'𝘃𝗲 𝗯𝗲𝗲𝗻 𝗹𝗼𝗼𝗸𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗶𝗻𝘁𝗼 𝗿𝗲𝗰𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗹𝘆.

Whilst I haven't been posting every day, I've still been busy behind the scenes following up on concerns that local people have raised with me.

Over the last few weeks I've reported a number of issues across Cleadon Village and East Boldon, including:

✅ 𝗢𝘃𝗲𝗿𝗴𝗿𝗼𝘄𝗻 𝗯𝘂𝘀𝗵𝗲𝘀 𝗼𝗻 𝗦𝗵𝗶𝗲𝗹𝗱𝘀 𝗥𝗼𝗮𝗱, Cleadon, where parts of the pavement is becoming very obstructed.

✅ 𝗢𝘃𝗲𝗿𝗴𝗿𝗼𝘄𝗻 𝘁𝗿𝗲𝗲𝘀 𝗶𝗻 𝗘𝗮𝘀𝘁 𝗕𝗼𝗹𝗱𝗼𝗻, where fallen branches and debris have been causing difficulties for people using the pavements, particularly older residents.

✅ Raised and uneven paving slabs around 𝗠𝗮𝗿𝘀𝗱𝗲𝗻 𝗥𝗼𝗮𝗱, 𝗖𝗹𝗲𝗮𝗱𝗼𝗻, which have already been a trip hazard.

I've raised these issues with the relevant departments and will continue to follow them up. As always, I'll share any updates when I receive them.

𝗜𝗳 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗿𝗲'𝘀 𝘀𝗼𝗺𝗲𝘁𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗶𝗻 𝗖𝗹𝗲𝗮𝗱𝗼𝗻 𝗩𝗶𝗹𝗹𝗮𝗴𝗲 𝗼𝗿 𝗘𝗮𝘀𝘁 𝗕𝗼𝗹𝗱𝗼𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗻𝗲𝗲𝗱𝘀 𝗮𝘁𝘁𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻, 𝗽𝗹𝗲𝗮𝘀𝗲 𝘀𝗲𝗻𝗱 𝗺𝗲 𝗮 𝗺𝗲𝘀𝘀𝗮𝗴𝗲.

Whether it's overgrown vegetation, damaged pavements, potholes, litter, fly-tipping, road safety concerns or anything else affecting the local area, I'm always happy to take a look and see what can be done.

I can't promise every issue can be fixed immediately, but I can help raise it with the relevant organisation and keep people updated on any response.

While looking into the overgrown grass around the play area and playing fields on Mundles Lane in East Boldon, I also noticed a number of large potholes at the entrance to the lane.

Some were filled with water, making them difficult to see, and they could easily cause damage to vehicles, bicycles or pose a hazard to people walking.

I raised this with South Tyneside Council at the same time as the grass cutting issue.

I’ve already received an acknowledgement from the council confirming that the matter has been passed to the Highways Inspector for assessment.

I’ll share any further updates once I hear more.

A concern was raised about overgrown grass and some litter around the play area and playing fields on Mundles Lane in East Boldon. Thanks to Ethan for flagging this and passing it on.

I went along this evening to take a look.

The litter turned out to be minimal and I cleared away what I could see, but the grass is very overgrown in a number of areas, including around the play area itself.

I appreciate that some areas may be left longer to support wildlife, which is important, but around a children’s play area and recreational space most people would reasonably expect the grass to be kept under control.

I’ve contacted South Tyneside Council to ask when this is scheduled to be cut and will share any update once I receive a response.

Firstly, congratulations to the three elected Green candidates in Cleadon Village & East Boldon, and well done to everyone who stood in the election across all parties and independents.

I also want to say a 𝗴𝗲𝗻𝘂𝗶𝗻𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗮𝗻𝗸 𝘆𝗼𝘂 to every single person who voted for me.

To 𝗿𝗲𝗰𝗲𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝟱𝟮𝟴 𝘃𝗼𝘁𝗲𝘀 𝗮𝘀 𝗮𝗻 𝗶𝗻𝗱𝗲𝗽𝗲𝗻𝗱𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗰𝗮𝗻𝗱𝗶𝗱𝗮𝘁𝗲 standing for the first time honestly means a lot. Every conversation, message, comment, share and vote was appreciated more than you probably realise.

This campaign was never just about politics for me. It was about listening to people, meeting residents across the ward, understanding local concerns and trying to bring a more community-focused and constructive approach to local conversations.

One thing I’ve definitely taken away from the last few months is that a huge number of people really care about this area and want the best for it.

Although I wasn’t elected this time, this won’t be the last people hear from me locally 🙂

Whatever happens tonight, I just want to thank everyone who has supported me, spoken to me or taken the time to chat over the last few weeks.

Running as an independent has been a big learning experience, but one thing it’s confirmed to me is that local people really do care about this area and its future.
