At the heart of Imago Dei Prison Ministry is the desire to see women live out their identity and purpose. We believe that no one should be defined by their past or even their circumstances. God created mankind in his image and gave each of us unique gifts, talents, skills and purpose. There are many circumstances and contributing factors as to why people find themselves in prison. By helping to ad

dress these issues during the time spent in custody we believe we are offering real practical solutions and helping prisoners to become healed and whole ready for their release. We want to equip and empower people to live out their potential and not to be defined by their past. This in turn has a knock-on effect on society; community, and family-life, particularly in helping to reduce the re-offending rate.

There has been a lot in the news lately about the over-crowding of prisons in the UK, and so many early-releasers returning to prison after re-offending.

It is crucial that those leaving prison are given all the support they need to restart their live outside, and to integrate well into the community. There are so many factors which are often overlooked, including the ability to do everyday tasks such as cooking and laundry.

Employment is another key issue. There is still a lot of stigma among employers about hiring someone with a criminal conviction. It can seem a uphill struggle at times. Our Employment Network is making huge progress in helping women released from prison secure much needed employment by working with local employers to show the benefits.

Other questions which need to be answered upon release are.... "What's Next?"

In 2025, BREAKTHROUGH started work on new prison-based programmes in collaboration with BT and the Ministry of Justice. They delivered Skills Bootcamps across the UK in AI skills, Leadership and Management, Creativity and AI to over 200+ associates.

Now, in 2026, they are expanding their reach, moving beyond just Skills Bootcamps to apprenticeships, AI capacity building, and working harder than ever to reach those who need AI education the most, including those in the Criminal Justice System.
