What we love in the library is how diverse books can be. So many different genres to choose from!

As it is Halloween we are looking at horror crossover books, this time it is Romantic Horror and we have picked Doomed Romances.

Below is a blurb to get you interested!

Enter a world of dark romance, where Gothic tragedy meets tales of transgression against society and where death's parting of lovers may only be a temporary barrier.

You can reserve this book for only 30p using the link below or ask the staff next time you are in the library 🎃

Inspire is celebrating its 10th anniversary, so it seems fitting that we have a talk upcoming which celebrates 10 years of Halloween talks at Retford Library! 🦇

Local writer Martin Jones will repeat the one talk that started it all. "Dreadful Sacrifices: Redux - Ten Years of Terror!" is an updated guide to British Horror Cinema, focusing on the g(l)ory years between 1960 - 1980. Expect monsters, vampires, screaming victims, good versus evil, axes, dubious fashions and lots and lots of fake blood!

The talk is on Tuesday 27th October at 6pm. Tickets are £3 (cash only please) to include refreshments. Suitable for adults only. Booking is essential, so don't miss out this fangtastic talk! 🧛‍♂️

The incredible poster artwork was created by Derek Gray.

Bi-lingual volunteers wanted! 🔊

We're looking for friendly and enthusiastic volunteers to help review translated library information. We've translated the documents covering our library joining procedures and how to use our computer & printing facilities, and are looking for bi-lingual speakers to check them for accuracy and clarity.

We're looking for speakers of any of the following languages:
❄️ Romanian
🌵 Lithuanian
🍒 Punjabi (Gurmukhi)
🍨 Arabic
🌻Latvian
🪐Russian
🐠Urdu

By volunteering for this role, you'll help make our library services more accessible and welcoming for people who speak different languages in our communities, and help ensure that important info is easy to understand and culturally appropriate.

This role can be carried out from home or wherever is best for you.

What we love in the library is how diverse books can be. So many different genres to choose from!

As it is Halloween we are looking at horror crossover books, this time it is Fantastical Horror and we have picked The Midnight Timetable.

Below is a blurb to get you interested!

In a labyrinthine research facility where those who open the wrong door might find it's disappeared behind them, or that the echoing footsteps they're running from are their own, an unnamed protagonist begins their night shift under the watchful eye of the building's enigmatic senior guard. Each evening, as the fluorescent lights hum and the silence grows heavier, the guard shares another story - of cursed objects hidden behind security glass, of lives unspooled by vengeance, sorrow or revelation. These tales are not mere ghost stories. They're warnings. Lessons. Or perhaps confessions. As the nights stretch on and reality frays, the protagonist starts to suspect that the building itself is alive with malevolent intent - that the objects aren't just cursed, but waiting.
