💚 Supporting Young People Across Bassetlaw 💚

It was a pleasure to visit Focus on Young People in Bassetlaw and present a £300 donation to support the fantastic work they do with young people across our communities.

It was also a real pleasure to meet Heather, who does an exceptional job supporting the charity and the young people it works with. Her commitment and enthusiasm for making a difference across Bassetlaw really shines through.

Focus supports young people aged 8–25 across Bassetlaw, helping them gain confidence, develop new skills, recognise their potential and achieve their goals.

Organisations like Focus play such an important role in our communities, and I'm delighted to be able to support their work and help ensure opportunities continue to be available for young people throughout Bassetlaw.

A huge thank you to Heather and everyone involved with Focus for the time, commitment and energy you put into supporting our young people. 👏💚

🚧 A638 NORTH ROAD – RESURFACING UPDATE 🚧

Great to see the much-needed resurfacing works taking place along North Road (A638).

This is a well-used route through our local area, and the condition of the road has been something residents and motorists have understandably raised concerns about.

The resurfacing will make a real difference — providing a smoother and safer road surface and improving one of the key routes used by our communities every day.

There will inevitably be some short-term disruption while the work is completed, so thank you to residents and motorists for their patience.

It’s good to see investment being made in maintaining and improving our local road network. I’ll continue raising highways issues across the area and pushing for improvements where they are needed.

🛣️ RET­FORD WEST – HIGHWAYS & MAINTENANCE UPDATE

I’ve received the latest Via East Midlands highways update for Retford West, covering works delivered in July and the programme for 2026/27.

During July alone:

🔧 68 defect jobs completed
🚧 23 CAT1 priority defect jobs completed
🕳️ 63 gullies cleaned
👷 238 planned inspections completed
🛣️ 494m² of preventative maintenance
🩹 13m² of patch repairs
📞 45 customer reports received

There are also a number of works planned or programmed across the ward, including:

➡️ West Carr Road, Retford – structural drainage works
➡️ A638 North Road, Retford – carriageway resurfacing
➡️ A620 Babworth Road / Ordsall Road, Retford – signing and lining safety improvements
➡️ A620 Straight Mile, Ranby – puffin crossing
➡️ Aurillac Way, Retford – bollards
➡️ B6420 Mansfield Road, Babworth – signing/lining road safety works
➡️ Hallcroft Road, Retford – zebra crossing
➡️ Mansfield Road, Babworth – level-crossing signage improvements
➡️ Ranby Village Hall – direction signage
➡️ Thrumpton Lane, Retford – parking and junction improvements
➡️ Tiln Lane, Retford – junction protection markings

Preventative maintenance is also programmed for Randall Way, Silverdale Close, Thrumpton Lane, Trinity Road and Westfield Road, with surface dressing planned on sections of the A638 Great North Road.

It’s good to see investment continuing across Retford West, but I know there are still roads, pavements, drainage issues and defects that residents want addressing.

It was a real pleasure to visit the Majestic Theatre in Retford and meet the passionate team behind one of our town's most treasured landmarks.

I was given an insight into their exciting plans over the next year as they build towards the theatre's centenary celebrations in 2027. There is a real sense of ambition, enthusiasm and pride, and it's clear there are some fantastic things in store for our community.

The Majestic is a true jewel in Retford's crown, and it continues to play such an important role in bringing people together through arts, entertainment and community events.

A huge thank you to everyone involved – from the staff and volunteers to all those working behind the scenes. Your dedication and hard work ensure this historic venue continues to thrive for future generations.

I look forward to supporting the Majestic Theatre in the months ahead and helping champion its exciting vision as it approaches this incredible milestone. Here's to a fantastic centenary year in 2027!
