📢 Setting the Record Straight 📢

Cllr Kathy Ballard and Cllr Tom Nevill have supported residents and businesses regarding the proposed tree removal as part of the Station Parade bus lane scheme.

From the outset, we have been working closely with local businesses and listening to residents’ concerns throughout the consultation process. We have consistently made the case for protecting a healthy, mature tree while recognising the need for well-planned transport improvements.

We are disappointed by Reform controlled East Sussex County Council’s decision to proceed with the proposal. We know how much this tree means to many people, and we share the sadness felt across our community.

Our commitment remains the same: to represent residents, work constructively with local businesses, and continue standing up for Upperton at every opportunity.

Supporting Our Street Pastors 🙏💙

Cllr Kathy Ballard and Cllr Tom Nevill had the pleasure of attending the Street Pastors South East Regional Conference.

The pair were proud to step into the breach and support the event, with Cllr Ballard delivering a speech thanking the incredible Street Pastors for their dedication to keeping communities safe and supporting those in need.

Street Pastors make a real difference across Eastbourne, offering a friendly face, practical help and reassurance to people on our streets. Their commitment to serving others is truly inspiring.

Improving Access in Weavers Close ♿🚶‍♂️

Following concerns from residents, Cllr Tom Nevill worked with East Sussex Highways to find a practical solution to parking issues affecting access in Weavers Close.

As a result, new bollards have now been installed, helping to protect the tactile paving and improve access for pedestrians, wheelchair users, pushchairs and those with visual impairments. 💛

This is a great example of partnership working to deliver simple, effective improvements that make a real difference to residents’ daily lives.

Good news for residents and road users! Following action by Cllr Kathy Ballard, the worn give way markings at the junction of Hurst Road and Mill Road have now been refreshed by East Sussex Highways.

Clear road markings are essential for keeping junctions safe and helping all road users navigate with confidence. 🚗🚶‍♀️🚴

Kathy will continue working with East Sussex Highways to ensure local roads are safe, well maintained and receive the attention they deserve. 💛🐝

🎨✨ Another win for the local area! ✨🎨

Following action from Cllr Tom Nevill, the railings on Willingdon Road are now being painted thanks to the Community Payback Scheme 🙌💛

It might seem like a small change, but keeping our streets clean, tidy and well maintained makes a real difference to how our neighbourhood feels. 🌳🐝

🌿🧹 Local Charity Workday Collects Litter in Gildredge Park, Upperton.

Volunteers from local charity A Band of Brothers recently took part in a litter pick across Gildredge Park and Manor Gardens 🌳

A Band of Brothers supports young men involved in, at risk of entering, or transitioning from the criminal justice system, as well as those living in supported housing. Throughout the year, the organisation runs several community workdays, and this May saw volunteers helping to keep Eastbourne’s much-loved green spaces clean and welcoming 💚

The charity supports young men seeking to positively transform their lives through:
🤝 One-to-one mentoring with trained mentors
🏕️ A Rites of Passage weekend
💬 Ongoing support and guidance

Local lead Steve Wallis says:
“If any 18–25-year-old men are wanting to positively change their lives, please contact A Band of Brothers to initially discuss how this might be possible.”

The charity is also looking for older men to train as volunteer mentors 🙌

Kathy Ballard Raising Pothole Concerns at County Hall ⚠️🛣️

Cllr Kathy Ballard has been at County Hall raising concerns about the growing number of potholes across our area - and the lack of proper, long-term repairs being carried out.

Too many residents are frustrated with temporary patch jobs that quickly fail, leaving roads unsafe and causing unnecessary damage and disruption. 🚗🔧

Kathy made clear that Upperton residents deserve better maintenance, quicker action, and repairs that actually last. 💪💛

She’ll continue holding East Sussex County Council to account and pushing for safer, properly maintained roads for everyone. 🐝
