Hot weather can affect anyone, but older people, young children and those with long-term health conditions are at greater risk.

Please check in on family, friends and neighbours who may need support.

Remember to stay hydrated, keep cool, avoid the sun during the hottest part of the day, and never leave children, vulnerable people or pets in parked vehicles.

To help keep our seafront looking its best during the busy summer period, our waste teams empty public bins frequently throughout the day, starting at 6.30am through to 7pm. We have also put extra 1100 litre bins at multiple spots along the beach from Langney Point to Holywell.

On particularly busy days, litter bins can fill up qu**ky. If you see a full bin, please don’t use it or leave bags of rubbish beside it – you know what seagulls are like!
Either use a different bin or (even better) take your litter home with you.

If you come across a bin that’s full, please report it to us using the link in the comments so we can get to it as quickly as possible.

Planning on heading to the seaside during this heatwave? As well as packing all the essentials, make sure you follow the safety advice to stay safe at the coast.

- Visit a lifeguarded beach
- Swim between the red and yellow flags
- If you get into trouble in the water, Float To Live
- If you're out for a walk by the coast, check the tide times
- If you see someone in trouble, dial 999 and ask for the coastguard.

We want everyone to enjoy themselves and stay safe (plus don't forget the sunscreen, it's going to be a scorcher).

🌡️ During hot weather, a quick check-in could make a big difference. Please look out for older or vulnerable neighbours, people living alone, and anyone with a long-term health condition or extra support needs.

Knock, call or message to check they are keeping cool, drinking plenty of fluids, and have what they need.

If you, a family member or a neighbour may need extra help during a power, gas or water interruption, consider joining the free Priority Services Register.

It can provide additional support for people who are older, disabled, living with a medical condition, pregnant, have young children, or need extra communication or safety support.

Contact your energy, gas or water supplier to register, or help someone you care about sign up.

To help keep our hard-working waste crew safe during the heatwave, we're asking Eastbourne residents to please put your bins out by 6am this week - an hour earlier than usual.

We really appreciate your help with this - it means the team can avoid working in the hottest part of the day (which could see record-breaking temperatures for June!).

A massive thank you to the crew as always - they work incredibly hard in all weathers and huge thanks to YOU, our wonderful residents for doing your bit to help keep them safe 🙏🚛♻️

Staying safe in the sun is the ace up your sleeve. Here is your quick checklist to smash the heat:

💧 Stay Hydrated: Sip water throughout the day, not just when you feel thirsty. Keep a refillable bottle handy!

🧢 Ace Your Outfit: Pop on a wide-brimmed hat or a cap to keep the sun off your face, and don't forget your sunglasses.

🧴 Apply and Reapply: Slap on high-SPF sun cream before you head through the gates, and top it up between sets.

🌳 Seek Out Shade: Take breaks away from the courts to cool down in the shaded areas around the grounds whenever you need.
