We’re pleased to be sponsoring Langney Community Library as it celebrates its Celebration of Reading Week, running from 26 September to 3 October. 📚

The week will feature local authors, poets and storytellers, with free events and activities for all ages, alongside the new Eastbourne Literary Festival, taking place from 25-27 September.

Alan Shuttleworth, Chair of the Trustees at Langney Community Library, said:

“We are incredibly grateful to Lightning Fibre for sponsoring our Celebration of Reading Week. Their support means a great deal to us as a volunteer-run library at the heart of the Langney community, helping us continue to provide a welcoming and accessible space for local residents and encourage a love of reading among younger generations.”

Reading Celebration Week Saturday, 26 September to Saturday 3 October.

IVOR THE ELEPHANT COMING TO LANGNEY COMMUNITY LIBRARY SOON

Langney Community Library, which is in the Langney Shopping Centre, is preparing an activity-packed week for children as part of their Reading Celebration Week.

During the week children will meet local authors and take part in activities in the library and in local schools, West Rise Primary and Shinewater Primary schools.

The events begin on Saturday, 26 September when Eastbourne author Nicola Baldwin will launch the week by introducing young readers to Ivor, a little elephant with a short trunk who knows what it feels like to be different. Through Ivor’s story, children will celebrate what makes them unique, show kindness to others and have the confidence to be themselves.

As Nicola Baldwin said,
“Books have an incredible ability to help children understand themselves and each other. I wrote Ivor’s story because I wanted children to come away feeling that being different isn’t something they need to hide. If one child closes the book feeling a little more confident about who they are or a little kinder towards someone else, then I’ve achieved what I hoped to.”

What Are You Looking At? is a rhyming picture book for children aged 3–7 and is available through Nicola Baldwin’s website and selected booksellers. Come and meet Nicola at the launch.

The Celebration of Reading Week has been supported by local sponsors including the Langney Shopping Centre, Tesco, The Works, Nima Print, Lightning Fibre and Eastbourne LitFest.
Alan Shuttleworth, Chair of the Trustees commented, "Langney Community Library is run entirely by volunteers. We would like to welcome new members to the library. Why not visit Langney Community Library? Children who join the library during Celebration Week will get a free book. We are extremely grateful for our wonderful volunteers and for the generous support of our sponsors and their commitment to our local community library"
