🚒 Around 35 firefighters from across the Isle of Wight were called to a derelict building blaze in Ryde overnight.

Smoke was issuing when crews arrived on the scene before the fire spread into the roof of the building.

The fire is now under control and the incident is being scaled down, with only three fire engines set to remain on the scene.

⚠️ Crews on the Isle of Wight are currently tackling a fire within a derelict building on Lind Street in Ryde.

We ask that you stay away from the scene and for local residents to close doors and windows due to the smoke in the area.

The fire has been extinguished and firefighters are now starting to leave the scene.

One crew will return later this evening to inspect the area and check for any remaining hotspots.

This summer our prevention teams have been patrolling certain arson hotspots, including this one in Gosport, and police have been notified as it is believed this fire was set deliberately.

With the school break now here, most kids will want to be out enjoying the sunshine with their mates. We ask that parents speak to their children, encourage them to avoid setting fires and follow our guidance this summer - https://bit.ly/ReduceWildfireRisk

Please see information on Road Closure related to the fire we are tackling off Fort Road in Gosport.

Good afternoon from the Control Room,

We are on scene assisting our colleagues from Hampshire Fire and Rescue Service (HFRS) who are dealing with a large fire near Stokes Bay, Gosport.

At this time HFRS have everything under control but due to some areas still being alight, a large amount of smoke and to allow HFRS the space to do their work, we have had to put some road closures in place that will remain for sometime.

The closure is on Fort Road at it's junctions with Anglesea Road, Monckton Road and Gilkicker Road.

We apologise for any inconvenience this may cause and would ask people to avoid the area. Once these closures are lifted we will issue an update
