🔥Please protect our Country Parks
Most wildfires in the UK are caused by human activity and all open spaces are high risk.
They destroy precious countryside and wildlife habitats, and can quickly threaten homes and communities.

⚠️In light of the Government's wildfire warnings and ban of disposable BBQ sales - we have taken the decision to pause the brick-built barbecue hire at Itchen Valley Country Park for the rest of August.

If conditions continue to remain dangerously dry, then we may extend this period.

Help prevent wildfire and protect our communities, open spaces and wildlife:
🚫Never light fires or open flames in the countryside or other open spaces
🚫Never leave a household barbecue unattended and ensure it is fully extinguished after use
👍🏻Dispose of smoking materials carefully and never throw cigarette ends from vehicles
👍🏻Take litter home, particularly glass bottles which can intensify sunlight and increase fire risk
👍🏻Call 999 immediately if you see signs of a fire

Thank you for caring for our Country Parks 🌳🐞

Five friends. One day. A mystery 90 years in the making.

🎣Blue-green algae at Lakeside Country Park

Visitors to Lakeside, Eastleigh are advised to avoid contact with the water in the two fishing lakes due to the occurrence of a blue-green algal bloom.

⚠️The Council and the Environment Agency recommends that people avoid the algal bloom as it can cause ill health such as dermatitis, eye irritation, rashes, blistering, abdominal pain, diarrhoea and nausea through skin, eye contact or if swallowed.

🐕Should anyone believe that they have been affected by blue-green algae, they should seek medical advice or in the case of pets, contact with blue-green algae should be treated as a veterinary emergency.

The water sports lake is currently clear, testing is being carried out regularly and pre-hired activities are continuing as normal although this could change at any time. Please be reminded that swimming is not permitted for the public

🚫🏊🏻The public are not permitted to enter the lakes at the Country Park

It may look inviting, but there are hidden dangers - please keep children supervised at the water’s edge

What if someone falls into water?

🛟STOP – THINK – HELP
🛟Stay calm
🛟Encourage them to stay calm and float on their back like a starfish.
🛟Shout for HELP as loudly as you can
🛟Do not jump in the water with them
🛟Call 999 and ask for Fire & Rescue
🛟Lie down and try to reach them with something long like a stick or clothing or throw them rescue equipment to help them float until the emergency services arrive

For everyone's enjoyment and safety no individual craft, inflatables or swimming by members of the public are permitted.

Groups that use the lakes have the explicit permissions and safety protocols in place to do so: https://www.eastleigh.gov.uk/parks-leisure-and-culture/country-parks/lakeside-country-park/things-to-do
