Scotland owes an enormous debt of gratitude to our farming community for so many things we take for granted.

Not only do farmers put food on our tables, but they also help maintain the beautiful countryside we cherish. Yet behind those familiar landscapes lies an industry characterised by long hours, financial pressures, dangerous working conditions, few opportunities for a proper break and, too often, the isolation that contributes to one of the highest su***de rates of any occupation.

Farming is far more than a job; it is a way of life that demands extraordinary dedication, resilience and sacrifice.

So, on 12 October, National Farmers Day, let’s take a moment to recognise and thank the people who work tirelessly to keep our countryside alive and our tables supplied.

Thank you to our farmers. Scotland owes you more than we often realise.
